I have the same type S8 you have, but I live in Florida, where the humidity is high. I keep my settings on three. When I increased it, I found I had more moisture in my mask. I keep it pretty cool in the house, about 75 degrees at night.

My husband, on the other hand, HATED when I put his to a three. He is congested a lot and needs four or more... however.. when I experimented once and maxed out his humidity... he said he felt hot. So I guess every night, turn the knob up one until you are comfortable.

You have to have a data capable machine before you can use the software. I don't know that much about the Resmeds but I don't think your machine is data capable -- but I am not 100% sure.

The software is an additional feature that users have purchased and does not come automatically with your machine. Resmed's software has become hard to come by if I am thinking correctly.

One of the more knowledgeable Resmed owners should answer with better answers.

It is the same humidifier.....not the same model S8. The compact is not data compatable...the elite is. But they both use the same humidifier, and the only real difference is the data capabilities.

I have to keep my humidifier maxed out, has never caused any problems for me.
