pur sleep...with a twist
OK....I've posted on Pur Sleep in the past and luv the Peace...
so the other nite I got out my old pass over humifier and filled
it 1/2 and then two drops of Peace...it works great and dosen't
lose the plesant smell like the pads do...just a soothing plesant
smell...i don't think I'd use another scent unless I washed out the
humifier completely...but since I use only one scent it works GR8..

I'm neither a scientist nor a doctor, but I don't think that putting PurSleep in your humidifier is such a good idea.
For one thing, an xpap machine humidifier is not designed to handle oil and I would be concerned about possibly gumming up the works.
Also, I'm not sure how healthy or safe it would be to inhale the vaporised oil into your lungs.

I'm no scientist either...
This is an old pass over humidifer, not the one on my machine...The air comes out of my machine, thur the old humidifer, then into my mask....
And with only two drops in the water I hardly see how this could be harmful
but to each there own..It works for me...
And I'm just relating my experience...

RobertinTX, having experimented a bit with using essential oils in the humidifier I can say that one potential issue is that essential oils tend to have a solvent effect on plastics, especially when heat is involved. If your passover is not heated, this may not be a problem. It may also void your manufacturer warranties (for whatever value that might have for you). That said, as you found out, it is a very effective way to diffuse aromatics. I have invented an in-line aromatic diffuser that also works well but it will probably be a few years before I have the resources to bring that product to market. For now, the PurSleep passive diffuser seems to work well for most people and avoids direct contact between the essential oil and the equipment.RobertinTX wrote:I'm no scientist either...

old posts
hi,
u might check out ... ie search for old posts and pur sleep
it was pulled for a while when it was a direct feed into your
mask...
there was a long fight about it as not being medically approved...
but as you say it is your choice ...
and i am not a medical person just a user
but you might want to search and see the arguments ...

I should have added that I am a big fan of PurSleep and use it every night. And I wish the scent would last longer (or my awareness of it would last longer).
Two drops doesn't seem like they could do much damage, but I guess I am still an underwriter at heart!

Re: old posts
Just to clarify--the controversy focused on the original in-line diffuser, which has been discontinued. As of June of this year the new passive diffuser format does not touch the equipment.wolftracker wrote:hi,

And another lady just today on cpap.com noted that she has been able to discontinue her sleeping pills by using PurSleep aromatherapy. Based on everythig I've heard it's working well for many people. I'd say that people should consider the pros and cons of CPAP compliance, sleep medicine side-effects, etc.

Just my experience - my sensation of smelling it while my mask is on goes away very quickly. However, it lingers on my mask, and when I put it on, I smell it immediately. If I take it off for a potty break, and then put it back on, I smell it immediately. When I got to put it on the next night, there it is.
I even smell it after I've washed it! And no, I don't put any of the PurSleep on my mask!
Cheers,
Babette

As long as I've been on CPAP I've learned a lot....(16 years and counting....)
I do think the first machine were a vac set on blow..lmao..
or we could go with the old self contained unit the hose connected to the users exhast (yuck) system....rotflmao...but we've been there done that in other post...
The humidifer I use for my pur sleep is old, non heated etc...
Wow liquid smoke, I may have to try that one, but then I'd dream about cookin and eatin all nite...
