FF masks and higher pressures

Post by allen476 » Tue Nov 20, 2007 8:13 pm

I have been doing a lot of reading on this site and have to pose a question to those with higher pressures. I need to replace my UMFF mask and am looking at either a HR 7600 VIP, a Comfortfull 2, or a Hybrid. The problem I have is that my pressure is 16 and a nasal mask is out of the question due to mouth breathing. I am a side sleeper but rarely move during the night.
Any input would be appreciated as like everyone else I would hate to spend money on a mask that wouldn't work.

Thanks,
Allen

Ok... I like my Hybrid. I move at night when I sleep... side to back to other side. Rarely get leaks.

ComfortFull 2 Full Face

Post by SleepingBetterNow » Wed Nov 21, 2007 6:16 am

I'm a huge fan of the ComfortFull 2. It's actually my favorite mask with the F&P 432 a close second. I have a full beard trimmed pretty short and I still get an excellent seal. I sleep on my sides and frequently change positions through the night with no problems. You can get one very inexpensively on cpapauction.com too.

I couldn't get the Mirage Quattro or Liberty to stop leaking unless I tightened the straps so they were very uncomfortable.

What is your pressure with the Hybrid? I too have a high pressure of 17 and could not use the Liberty. I would love to be able to use the Hybrid and am wondering if I can with my pressure. I have not been able to find a post from someone with pressure this high that uses a Hybrid mask. Although, I think I remember seeing a post from Rooster saying he has a high pressure and uses Hybrid, but I am not sure.

I use the Liberty similar to the Hybrid. My pressure is set at 16.6. I originally was 15 asked to be upped by doc to 16, then took in my own hands to incrementally up it .2 at time until 16.8 I have readings of AHI now 2-4.

I am able to use the liberty with the Mac's silicon flattened around mask to creat a good seal since I have a close cropped beard. I use surgical tape or band aids for the nose to keep the pillows from leaking. I still have some leakage and I am still working on the best way to prevent leakage. However, my leak rates seem to be fine average 12 and highest of 24 on average. I love the Liberty.

_Since I was diagnosed in Sept., I still new to using silicon or rubber bands or other methods to prevent leaks.Still have a lot to learn. That was the major problem I had with the Liberty. Was my first mask and I had NO clue how to adjust it. Felt like it was pushing my nose up into my eye sockets the next morning. EXTREMELY painful! I had it too tight , no doubt about that one...so I got a different mask. Now, I am thinking that I would love to try it again now that I know to adjust it more. But I am looking more toward the Hybrid. Exactly what is Mac's silicon? and where do I find it? and how did you use it on your mask? I don't mean to sound dumb, but like I said, I am new to all this and appreciate any and all the advice that I read here.________________

I'm on a pressure of 15 and used the Flexifit 431 when I used a full mask. Worked well for me but I wasn't "in love" with it. I've been using the Oracle(my DREAM mask) for past 1.5 years but thats a whole different story.
Go to cpapauction.com;I recently bought 2 masks there for less than $30 each and that included S/H. Can't go wrong at those prices.

Mine's not quite that high... min EPAP is 13 max IPAP is 17. Tooly, another poster that's here sometimes, has a higher pressure and still uses the Hybrid.

I started with the ResMed Ultra Mirage nasal mask at 17 cm and did not experience leads. They just bumped it up to 18 cm to get my AHI down (I was still getting up; to 15 AHI at 17 cm) and still no leaks. I actually had more leaks during titration PSG at 14 cm.

Current BiPAP Pressure Settings: IPAP = 18, EPAP = 15

I use the Quattro with a Rested Gal strap around the frame just above the swivel elbow. I run my auto at a range of 15-20 and spend a fair bit of time at 18-19. I don't have to have the headgear very tight. I find this setup quite comfortable and leaks are minimal.

Good thread, I have been thinking about trying another FF mask and my first question would have been about the pressure it can handle.

If you decide you want to use a strap under you chin to keep your mouth closed or one of those type applications, I can tell you the Swift II has held 30 cm H2O
for several minutes at a time, time after time, night after night.

With a change in medications, I think I can use a FF mask, so this thread is a good one, thanks for all the inputs.

Installing Software is like pushing a rope uphill.
I have Encore Pro 1.8.65 but could not find it listed
under software.

I LOVE the SV.

I too use the UM FF, and it leaks like a sieve unless I have the straps so tight that they feel like a steel band clamped around my face. If they are not, it leaks like crazy no matter how I adjust it.So did the Quattro. The UM FF is a comfortable mask, if it just would not leak so much.
