I'm sure the gel is OK. Its possible residues from the production that cause these allergic reactions in some of us. Once I soaked the gel mask, I had no further skin reactions. The suggestion to soak comes from here:

63. How do I clean the ComfortLite™ mask?
We recommend using mild soapy water on a daily basis for optimal results for any of our masks. Avoid soap with moisturizers. Cushions tend to interact to natural facial oils, so be sure to wash your face each night before use. Your seal and comfort can be compromised if cushions acquire build up on the cushion surface. For those with sensitive skin, it is a good idea to soak ANY new mask you use for 30-60 minutes in mild soapy water.
My emphasis
When I recieve the regular hose to use with my CPAP, the instructions to soak it before use written on the bag.

And now here is my secret, a very simple secret; it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.

There is a mask people have been showing here that is made of cloth.
I cannot remember the name......someone here will. the company sounds like covindance or something like that.....geees
Anyway, if you are so sensitive, that is an obtion.
This is a great site to come to if you are new or have been on cpap for a wile. My friend who's comuter I am using has this page as a homepage! They go a support group, too, and have been compliant to therapy for years. They live less than an hour from me. I got so much help here.
I had given up when I found the forums. It helped so much Ive been back on for almost 2 years.
I didn't even know there were support groups, thus have never been to one and am forming my own personal group of CPAP friends by emailing local people and getting to know them. This forum will help you and once you get to know a few people here you will see that life with XPAP can be wonderful. Your health improves so much!!
