Your experience! Do pillows (Hybrid) hold higher pressures ?

Post by LittleRedTruck » Mon Nov 05, 2007 11:35 am

Just got a Hybrid mask on loan from my DME for trial ! I,m very impressed with it ! Works great for me, but I think others may not like all that wind directly in the nares! My pressure has been 14 Ipap and 10 Epap ! I have never had a mask before with virtually no leakage as this one! So want to try the Auto feature of my AutoBipap ! I'm thinking of setting Min Epap =6, Max Ipap = 18 and Max PS = 8. If the IP should go to 18, I'm wondering what to expect from Pillows seal ! Can I push the Ipap to 20 ? Thanks,,,, Dan

I think you'll find the chin flap helps hold everything in place nicely at high pressure. I get new pillows every month and I like the position the pillows are in without cutting them apart. If you have already cut them apart and your pressure is 18/20- a small rubber band will hold them in place like new-if you need it.
I'm a side sleeper with some facial hair and it still works wonderfully for me.

I agree with neverbetter, the pillows on the hybrid have worked well for me at pressures up to 20/18. The only time I had any slippage is when the headgear was not properly tightened.

On the other hand, my husband, at a pressure of 10cms, has had multiple problems with the pillows, but they were due to a) wrong size pillows and b0 failure to properly snug the headgear. I think we have them fixed now.

Haven't found the perfect mask yet, but until I do the hybrid will serve.

Got a new mask that works great for me, but...

Hey,
I know what you mean about the pressure deal. I just started sleeping with a new Opus nasal pillow mask and I like it. I really like it. It took a bit of getting used to because of these two things at the ends of my nose but it didn't bother me nearly as much as I expected and there's no noise. I'm thrilled.

The pressure situation is something to consider though. I guess I have a low pressure 7, but it seems like a great deal to me. When I first feel the pressure going to 7 it seems like I can't breath and I have to fight not to take the mask off.

Now, if I can ony get to sleep, I'll be fine. LOL
