I am going to spread the word about Pur-Sleep in order to make more people aware of this product. Many CPAPer's have never heard of it and with Christmas coming up it would make a wonderful gift.
Why not help SleepGuy and spread the word.

Nite 5 & 6 with Pur-Sleep
Still slept VERY well with Peace. I wake up feeling more relaxed and hubby (who is the Cpaper) likes it too! I have taken the advice of pinning one of the pads to my pillowcase (end) and put 2 drops on it just for me! I sleep SO deeply!
I will be buying one of his trial packs for a friend of mine who is a Cpaper too. This will be a Christmas present for her!
May you have "Peaceful" Dreams,

SleepGuy...You have a PM on my view on the Pur-Sleep trial to date.
SleepGuy was kind enough to include me in his trial. Have to give someone a lot of credit who sends out his product free of charge with only someone's word that will get back to him with a review...and his whole purpose in doing it is to see if he can improve the product.
Pur-Sleep is an excellent product. However, I'm trying to be objective in my review of it in regard to actual impact on my sleep or Apnea. I want to give the product a bit more time to accomplish that. There is no doubt it helps relax and improve the sleep environment. Logic would say that can only improve sleep and the vast amount of testimonials certainly prove it does for many. Whether or not it turns out that I can objectively say it helps my sleep (and I have no reason to doubt it will), I'll continue using it for the simple subject reason that I like it.
In answer to your specific questions:
Various forums and word of mouth among users is a good start...you've got that here. Print advertising would help but that can get expensive and you've really only got a few technical and professional journals. Suspect that most DMEs you try to contact would express only limited interest because they've got insurance coverage in their sights and Pur-Sleep doesn't qualify. I don't know if you've done it, but if it were me, I'd zero in on the sleep clinics and insofar as I could afford it, I'd send every clinic I could find a free basic starter kit along with several brochures. If you could get just a few technicians and sleep doctors to give it a try...customer satisfaction will take over.

In answer to your specific questions:
As I see it, the major problem with a product like Pur-Sleep is market size and how to reach that small market. Only a small number of people have apnea, a small percentage of them get diagnosed, and less than half of them accept CPAP treatment. Of those with CPAP many may have had to purchase their own machines or could afford them simply because they have insurance (medicare). They may have little discretionary cash. You need to reach that small market that uses CPAP, has enough discretionary cash to purchase the product, and enough interest to consider buying it.1. Discounting the basic starter pack to $19.99 retail msrp. On a scale of 1-10, how much difference would a $19.99 price make vs. $29.99 for someone wanting to test it out?
It would likely make some difference...a big question as to how much. Compared to the cost of masks, machines, etc. $29.99 is not a major investment. However, that's also a good reason why people may not have the $30 to experiment with...they already are stretching their budget with other purchases. Lower it to $14.98 and say half price special offer and I'm sure it would get a bigger response...or just lower it to $14.98, drop one of the scents and perhaps reduce the bottle size and call it an introductory offer. There seems to be a psychological response to half price sales. If you want numbers and 1 means no help and 10 means everyone who sees the product will buy it, and I were forced to guess, I'd say $19.95 would mean a 2 or 3...14.95 with the idea of a super sale maybe a 5.
2. Unconditional Money-Back Guarantee. I've been offering this all year and have yet to see a return.... How much of a factor is a guarantee in getting people to try something completely new? Should the guarantee be more prominent?
I don't know about others, but I am really cynical about most warranties. Unless we're talking about a major purchase such as an appliance or automobile, a warranty means nothing to me. I don't even read the warranties on most items less than $100 or so for that reason. If I purchase a defective item in a store, they usually take it back so they're my warranty...not the manufacturer. I'll eat the price of a product before I go to the expense and time of shipping back a $30 item with the full expectation that I'll be arguing with a public service representative and get the runaround once it arrives. Its obvious to me that you don't fit into my stereotype. However, I'll bet that warranty doesn't carry much weight in your actual sales. What could be defective with your product short of breakage?
3. Allergies/smell sensitivities. It seems like a lot of people hesitate trying this product due to concerns about allergies and sensitivties. In large part this is driven by the constant exposure people have to artificial fragrances in their lives so it goes back to the natural aromatic vs. artificial issue. How could I try to address this concern?
Suspect that this is indeed true. Your product guide indicates this is a real risk under section 1. in precautions. A good way to address this may be to handle it in your warranty section (my comments previous section not withstanding). Simply say that money will be returned if you suspect any allergy to the product...no questions asked. The product is excellent. I don't think you'll have many people returning it unless they truly have allergies.
4. Overall pricing/value. How would you rate the product line in terms of real and perceived value, both as a potential customer thinking about trying the product and as a customer who has now experienced it? I believe in reasonable profits but I also believe in reasonable retail prices....
You've already pointed this out yourself. The perceived value of the product is much higher after trying the product...that becomes its real value. I don't consider that a surprise. I suspect most people are skeptics and a $30 investment is viewed by many as not unlike spending $30 on some herb that will cure ________ (fill in the blank). Same as that herb, if someone truly discovers it helps...the price becomes cheap.

Yup, I make this big suggestion about the $14.98 price...post it, get returned to the thread and discover that SleepGuy had already essentially done just that. Don't know how I missed his post.
Anyhow, SleepGuy, do indeed expect you'll see more results at that price. Wish you the best with it.
Next time I'll be more careful in reading the full thread before responding.

Just tried Clear last night, liked it.
Hi there,
I just tried out my new trial package and I agree with some posts that say a trial package for $19.95 would probably sell better. If you want to include all three scents you could make them smaller bottles in order to increase your profit and still give a good chance to try 3 scents.
Some trial packs with 3 smaller bottles and the difuser could be labeled differently. Example:
Spa trial pack would include 3 scents that invoke a spa experience.
Rejuvenation trial pack for 3 scents that renew the mind and body.
Sleepy Bear trial pack for 3 scents to make you drift off to sleep in cozy comfort.
Healing Garden trial for 3 scents to help those suffering from colds, flu and coughs.
I've only tried out the Clear last night and I did really like it. I am very interested in buying new scents as soon as I decide which one I like best. I also am interested in getting a scent package for a friend of mine who has a CPAP. She works so hard as a labor and delivery nurse. She's the one who has been very encouraging about my CPAP. I think she'd love this for Christmas. OH, That makes me think of gift packages:
Christmas theme/Hannaka theme
Valentines theme
You have a great product and I appreciate your chance to try it out. I'm much more apt to buy now. Thank you.

I was shocked when I got my free trial in the mail. I never win anything.
I was very excited to try it because I had been looking at the product on the internet for sometime. I can tell you for sure that the main thing that kept me from ordering was the price. Had it been $19.99 with the ability to make the choice of the scent I would get I would have bought it in a heartbeat.
I am not a fan of lavender (I know... most people love it) and Clear and Peace both have lavander. There were such good reviews about those two in particular I thought it might be a mix that I would like. I didn't like them and feel horrible to have to say it. Spice was better. I really love the idea of the scents so I have ordered the vanilla one (Creme). I think that combining that with the scents in the trial pack would be great.
The warranty would not have been a huge factor for me either. I am not good at returning things. They usually get thrown in a corner and forgotten about.
For the issue with people having aversions to scents... I love the idea of a trial scent on a card or stick. I think it would be very convincing. I know that no amount of testimonials would ever convince me like first hand experience. Fragrance phobics are very hard to change. They are assulted by unwanted scents all day. This way they can give it a try and not spend lots of money.
The product is invaluable to those who like it and find they cannot sleep without it. To anyone who is unsure...it may be a little hard to put out the initial investment. I like that you have changed the price around a bit. There needed to be some flexibility to draw in the people that are sitting on the fence about the purchase.
I really do appreciate the chance to try the product. It was extremely generous of you to put it out there like this. I am very interested in finding something other than plastic and mildew smell to go to sleep with. I am hoping the Creme is just what I am looking for.
Thanks!!!! And good luck!

I was sent a trial pack at my DME and I had it out on the counter for a while, I smelled the scents in the bottle and have to admit that I really didn't like them. Then I tried to put a few drops on the diffuser and set it on my desk, and I have to say I enjoyed all three of the scents that way. I have added Pur-Sleep to my patient information packet and given out the sample to patients to try. I have gotten rave reviews from all of them. I know that 3 or four have ordered kits. Working in a DME you get a lot of people trying to "sell" you on there latest and greatest products and a lot of the products are junk. This product is not junk and I have reccommended it to all my patients. I was wondering if you have considered a product like this for Oxygen patients. I have patients who struggle with being put on O2 similary to CPAP. I don't know how it would work for O2, but it is something to think about. Great Product.
Hey Brian, me too! I wasn't crazy about them in the bottle, but for some reason I like them on the diffuser pad! Go figure.
And I mix scents on the same pad, and use it for months before I contemplate washing it. Doesn't seem to bother me in the least.
