Anybody using Silverlining on a Macintosh?

Post by UKnowWhatInSeattle » Thu Feb 10, 2005 11:03 pm

My PB 420e should be arriving tomorrow (hurray!) and I'm one of them freakie Mac users...

Is anybody out there running Silverlining using Virtual PC and a USB to Serial adapter for the data cable? I can probably use my work laptop for a while, but eventually, I'm gonna want to use my home computer...

I am using a USB-Serial adapter without any trouble. That's on a real PC. I would hope that virtual PC does just as good.

Good luck
I think it makes me look like a dashing scuba diver, don't you?

I was just asked about this in a P.M... I haven't gone down the USB adaptor/VirtualPC route, since I have a Windows laptop available to me from work. So, I haven't tested the configuration. If anyone does, I hope they post their experiences.

I never thought I'd see the day where I carry my entire music collection in the palm of my hand and log in to my medical equipment. Sheesh.

I'm expecting to get a remstar auto with encore pro soon and I'm also a Mac user. The encore pro is not Mac compatible and I'm also curious as to how to make this work...
I'm not familiar with virtual PC. Is this a Mac program that will enable a Mac to use PC software?
thanks

thanks uknowwhat,
I spoke to a tech at MacMall who said virtual pc does not work for all software and is particularly troublesome when involved in applications involving external devices (like smart cards and card readers) He could not guarantee it would work with encore pro, but I'll follow through with your link and see if the makers of virtual pc can be more decisive...

A warning my fellow Mac lovers. If you install "Virtual PC" on yourf Mac, you will be subject to all the wonderful virus's and trojans that many of us moved to Mac to get away from. You will need to install all the cumbersom virus ware that we have the priviledge of not having to mess with. Your Mac becomes a PC so beware!

I agree R&R, I'm happy with my safe & secure Mac.

I spoke to the tech at Respironics, they claim the virtual pc will NOT work with encore pro. I don't know about the silverlining...

R&R, do you have an APAP with software? If so, how does a Mac user like yourself read the data?
I imagine I will have to get a cheap pc soley to read the smart card...
let's see, $200 for the software & smart card reader, plus a computer to read it...add that to the out of pocket $ spent on useless, leaky masks, not to mention the lost productivity due to exhaustion...

Oh well, whatever it takes to whip this thing.

I switched to the Mac one year ago June 1st. Best thing I ever did and I LOVE MAC! However, I still have a couple of old Dells I use in my office for various things like this. Don't go out and buy a new one. Go to eBay and get a used one. Used computers (Windows) have no resale value and you can pick them up dirt cheap. I have one that goes back to Windows 95 and it still works well for this stuff.

On a side note and off topic, any Mac brethren have TIGER yet and if so could you PM me and let me know if it is worth moving up from Panther or is it all just bells and whistles?
