i did develop a huge pimple on my forehead from one of my interfaces, and it was a doozy, in fact it was a couple of pimples joined together to look like one big one...it took about 2 weeks to go away...i was calling it a pineal gland and practically supergluing my bangs down to hide it...and it hurt like a #$%&$!*

could it be a pimple or a blocked pore?

I'm still in my (2 mth) trial equipment period, and went through a dozen masks on spec after having problems. Have decided to stick with the original one they sold me (Fisher & Paykel nose mask), since they all give me marks in any case. I've found bandaids that you buy in a strip in Chemist shops/drug stores, especially the ones for hypersensitive skin, are great. You can cut them to fit. It appears sometimes red marks will be the result of the mask due to some face shapes being maybe not standard (!), and if after trialling quite a few you find you cannot avoid it, you need to find a way to work around it.

The tape for hypersensitive skin does not stick well, but the mask does hold it in place. I even use a thin piece between my nostrils, since I get a sore there which eventually pimples and/or breaks the skin. Charming. Since I've used the 'bandaids' I've had no trouble at all, ever. Worth a try.

thanks, have actually linked to Padacheeks yesterday & even printed it, but have not yet had a chance to have a good look. I'm in Aussie, so we don't have Walmart! However, the cosmetic sponges we do have - you just place them under the mask straps in the appropriate places I presume? If so, can do that - thanks for the advice.

I too had the zit from hell. Mine was where my nose meets the cheek, and it swelled like crazy. I thought it was just a swollen spot at first. It took 2-3 weeks to go away. I made sure my face and my mask cushion were super clean before I went to bed after that, and never had that problem again.

I just heard about this, but have not tried it yet: Tempurpedic foam. The person who recommended it says that she tried other types of foam, but this was the only one that didn't leave marks.

yeah, jennmary, that's a good description...mine was almost right between my eyes...i thought cars would think i was an ambulance and pull over to the side of the road!

yeah, grandmma, that's all i do...i use the decapitated version of the aura/headrest, so i need something between the plastic and my skin...i just slip it in there after i put the headgear on and it stays put all night

but with other interfaces i've tried, padacheeks have been a godsend

Sore spot from mask

Post by kteague » Mon Oct 22, 2007 7:33 pm

Early on I was using a nasal mask that caused an awful pressure sore on the side of my nose almost on the cheek. It was infected and took about a week to heal. Tried the mask again and it happened again. Either wrong size or just not a design for me.

I will second that!

I use a F & P nasal mask, and the forehead pad was really uncomfortable and made the mask not fit so well, so I took them off and lined the forehead rest with a thin layer of memory foam (Dr. Scholl's insoles! Word.) -- perfect fit and very comfortable.
