Does anyone know of a lubricant to use for a hose connection

If your going to use a lubricant, use it on the quick connector for a one time use then connect each time with the plastic connector to the humidifier. one time lube.

No, it is the same either way and the ports are the same on both the reservoir and the biipap machine itself.
