Off of CPAP for several months

Post by snorin747 » Fri Oct 12, 2007 2:29 am

Well p-h-h-h-t, I fell off the hosehead wagon several months ago due to a cold with a clogged nose. I use the Swift Nasal Pillows. I tried the full face mask and it put too much pressure on my forehead.

Well, I got back on the CPAP two nights ago. I am struggling with a dry nose. Both nights I manage to keep the mask on for most of the night, but after about 6 hours I removed the mask because my nose was so dried out. I have been taking saline nose drops and coating the inside of my nose with Ayr Saline Nose Gel before I hook up to the machine. Last night after about an hour my left nostril dried out, so I applied another coating.

I'm going to crank the humidifier up a notch before I go to sleep this evening.

FWIW I feel a little more energetic this evening.

I had noticed that I was sleeping more and having difficulty doing simple mind related things. I complained to my doctors nurse about the sleepiness... and pretty much knew where that was going to end up.

Thanks. I work night shift and had to run up to Seattle for a doctor appointment late in the morning. That really messes up my sleep, since I sleep during the day.

I turned the humidifier up two notches, but it seems like it was too much so I bumped it down a notch. I was on the machine for just a couple of hours... really didn't sleep very well at all. But the good news is, if I can keep the napping under control, I WILL SLEEP tomorrow!

When I have a stuffy nose, I use Dristan nose spray. It really works for 12 hours, which is a gosend when you have a cold. But do not use it more than 3 days.

snorin747, have you tried a full face mask? It would seem to at least allow you to get some sleep. Regards
