Friday I got home from work and had a message on my machine.
Basically .....Mr Harris this is Apria, we are letting you know your order has been shipped and will be to you in 3 business days, thank you and call if
you have any questions........ yep I have questions..
I call.....How may I help you,,,,,,I have a question about my order.....I heven't placed an order, I haven't heard anything from my doc in almost
2 weeks.......well sir, we are sending you a machine and a mask......ok which mask?........the one you had your sleep study with.......uh, I used
three masks that night, which are you sending me.....sir I cant tell you but
it was one you liked... and just so you understand sir, Apria and Cigna, your health provider have an exclusive deal, we send what they want you
to have.......ok what if I don' like it.......well we will try to make arrangements for you to send it back for a partial refund on a used mask.
uh,,,if I don't like it ...I won't wear it, it won't be used.....Sir when anything
leaves our shipping location, it automaticlly becomes used, even if
you never wear it.........what if I go and buy a mask online, demand that you take yours back and bill Apria and Cigna for the price difference and all the shipping?????? sir don't be silly, no one on line is going to treat you
like we do.
So my box will be to me Wednsday........the contents will be a complete surpise...

What a CROCK!!!! But yours isn't the first such post we've seen in this and other apena forums regarding the "sweetheart" deal between Cigna and Apria. You most certainly have my sympathies. And my best wishes that somehow this works out all right for you. (((hugs)))

Aren't you glad that no one online will treat you like THAT. 500% mark up, lousy service ,big attitude, and arrogance. If you didn't sign a contract with them and can use another DME with your insurance company, I definately would(refuse shipment and send right back). If your stuck with that DME I would advise them you need to be fitted for a mask not just receive one they picked for you. I have found that alot of my friends and coworkers are hose heads.
I have right now 3 different styles of masks that are mine to keep
if they work for me. They are things others have used, and decided to
try something different.
The call could go like this....You know the box you sent, I never got it.
well we show it ws delivered............It must have been " stolen" send it again..........and here is what needs to be in it.
I like the idea of going to the local branch, trying EVERYTHING they have, till I find something good. take a camera phone picture of it, walk out with
out buying and then order on-line.

However, Kharris, check your personal out of pocket costs for the equipment Apria and Cygna have so generously decided you deserve and then check out what it would cost to buy WHAT YOU WANT out of pocket via cpap.com or other online DME. It "might" be worth your while to pack it all back up and return it before the first 30 days pass!!!! Depending on your particular policy it is entirely possible you will get by cheaper or for very little more buying what you want online out of pocket.
And, if you do buy online, try sending A COPY of the paid online invoice to Cygna and billing them for it. Who knows? They might even kick loose w/a couple of bucks! Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

we are sending you the cheapest costing crap in our inventory to maximize OUR profit margin to the hilt and there is nothing you can do about it and it is an exclusive deal because we got together with those involved to make sure you had no other options.

No way would I sign to accept that box. I hadn't been told specifically what's in it. No thanks.
If it were left at my door without requiring a signature, I'd not open it. I'd take it unopened straight to the Apria dealer and have them either take it back or open it themselves in front of me to show me what's in it -- with the full understanding that if what's in the box is not what I want when they pull the stuff out of the box with me just looking, not touching....the stuff is still theirs. Not mine.
If they pull out a cpap machine that has the word Plus written on the top surface of the machine, I'd not accept it. Not even if it has a Smart Card stuck in it, as the Plus model records only hours of use onto the Smart Card; not any detailed data at all.
I would not open a pig-in-a-poke box sent to me if I had the slightest suspicion it might not contain exactly what I want and that I would be stuck with it.
We spend one/third of our lives sleeping. And trying to breathe while we sleep. Mask comfort and machine pressure comfort are two big hurdles to get over in using cpap treatment. Discomfort can interfere greatly with being able to sleep at all.

What is in the box
I think I'd call back the person who didn't know what is in the box and ask them to transfer me to the person who does know, right up to the top. It is insane that they expect you to believe you were assigned equipment and nobody knows what. Somebody knows.
My guess is that readers on this forum are an exception, and in times past, rarely has equipment ever been questioned, so having a ready answer has not been necessary. But that's not to say there is no answer.
