Any Alabama Hoseheads here?

Post by Guest » Wed Sep 26, 2007 11:23 am

Just curious... I'm planning my annual pilgrimage back to the Motherland and thought I'd see if I had any hosehead friends in the area.

I'll be in Wetumpka for Alabama Frontier Days November 7-12. Come on by and visit with me in the French Fort Toulouse if you're in the area. Ask for Babette.

You know I'm around, but Wetumpka is out of my area. Otherwise I would definitely stop by! Do you ever go to Horse Pens 40?

No! What's Horse Pens 40? Is it a living history event? I don't do horses. I'm scairt. They are bigger than me, and smarter than me. I keep telling my horsey friends this, and they keep trying to convert me to being a horse lover....

My sister got all the horse genes. Me, I'm a dog person.

LOL,
B.

LOL...you would be safe. No horses there now. All sorts of festivals and reenactments are held there.

In the 1880's, the area was settled by a young couple named Hyatt, who had come here from Georgia. The original deed refers to "the home 40, the farming 40, and the horse pens 40", each tract consisting of 40 acres of land. This is how Horse Pens 40 got it's name. Descendants of the original Hyatt family still occupy nearby areas of the mountain, and we consider ourselves blessed to have them as neighbors and friends.

I'm from Birmingham, but have lived in Virginia for 23 years. I still call Alabama home.
Been to Horsepens 40 many times, and I miss it.
You can take the girl out of Alabama, but you can't take the Alabama outta the girl.

Hi Lee Lee.....Hubby and I worked in Birmingham for several years.

Where is Oakton? Hubby's family lived just outside Middleburg.

Yep, Horse Pens 40 is a unique and interesting place. We have also been there several times. Maybe Babette's group can check it out since there are no horses.

Finally got to look at that site. Very cool rock formations! Must put it on the list of things to see in Alabama. Dad and I are famous for our ten day road trips around the state. He likes to show off my patrimony.

I fear this trip will be limited to Wetumpka/Montgomery, however. Finally get to go to some of the museums I've missed in Montgomery. I decided to stay over an extra day, rent a car, and FOLLOW MY OWN AGENDA for once.

LOL,
Babette

That's me on the left, with the pissed off "Don't take my picture and post it on the internet!" look on my face.

Hair's shorter now. And I'm fatter. How did I get FATTER? Sheesh...

Gosh only knows what I'll look like by November.

LOL,

I grew up in Anniston myself but I live in Washington, DC these days. I guess all those years surrounded by George Wallace politics made me want to see what it like when a pro like Marion Barry does it!

Alabama is still my home though. I worked for years up on Mt. Cheaha at Camp Mac. I've been papping for 12 years now but only recently discovered this site. If you ever get near Anniston, stop at Betty's BBQ for the best pulled pork bbq anywhere.
