Quattro question
Okay, I took back the large and got the medium Quatro that they said would fit me. The good news is that it sealed wonderfully around and below my mouth, where the beard is. Nothing I tried got it to stop leaking into my eyes. Tightening straps, loosening strap, turning the little dial...nothing worked. I pulled it away from my face to let it reset, tried sliding the whole mask up, then down...nope. Am I doing something wrong? Is it time to quit trying, and just wait for the next new mask invention?
I use the Quattro and have a beard also. It's the best mask I've found to date to seal on my particularly contoured face. Ironically, its far and away the best one I've found for sealing around my nose as I have a relatively narrow nose bridge.
The way I do it is each night to turn the head support dial fully counterclockwise to push the support as far out from the mask body as possible. I place the mask on my face at the chin and allow the nose portion to seat secondly. I turn on the pressure and the mask will usually leak at the nose. I turn the dial clockwise until the leak stops...and it always does. During the night, if it leaks near the chin or nose I adjust the dial in or out to compensate. It basically rocks the position of the mask on your face and allows for more minute adjustments here than most masks.
I should also add that I used silicone to attach two 1/8" thick pieces of moleskin to the forehead surrport. On my face, this allowed me to generally have the dial position adjustment near the center of its range and remove the marks of the support from my forehead.

I heard they invented the razor sometime back.FuzzyGuest wrote:Okay, I took back the large and got the medium Quatro that they said would fit me. Maybe you should try reading the whole post...it's leaking into my eyes. I don't have a lot of hair there. At this point, sarcasm is the last thing I need, but if it makes YOU feel better, go ahead....

Sarcasm and teasing aren't exactly the same thing. I've grown beards over the years, too.....I have also had a mustache continually for the last 33 years.....but if it came down to that or my health.....it would come off in a heartbeat. That's just "straight talk".
I have a Quattro and it does NOT leak air toward my eyes. I keep the top straps loose and all of the tension on the bottom straps.....the forehead piece in the most vertical position. I can wear it even looser than my UMFF and it seems to seal better.....however, I like the increased airflow inside the UMFF so I wear it most of the time.
YMMV

Sorry, but that definitely came across as sarcasm. (Otherwise you would have just wrote the second paragraph in the first place). But never mind. I've decided my beard has nothing to do with the masks not fitting. I was just looking for some tips on how to wear this one. There won't be another for three months, so it's this one or none.Wulfman... wrote:Sarcasm and teasing aren't exactly the same thing. Some times "poking a little fun" or making light of a situation keeps us sane. It is not intended to make you angry . If we took everything seriously we would ALL be a wreck. I am sorry if I offended you in any way. Mask fitting can be the worst aspect of cpap, that is until you find the right mask for you. Good luck in your endevors to find the right mask.

Fuzzy,
I am an average sized guy and I started with the medium and found those nose leaks as well. My RT suggested that I try the small Quattro and that made all the difference in the world. It works fine for me. I don't take small in anything, but this time it was the right choice. See if you can experiment with a small. I'd stick with the Quattro if possible.

Check out http://www.cpapauction.com (usually to the far-right of the yellow light bulb above). There's one Quattro in there now (small), but there may be other masks that might work for you. A number of other forum members use the UMFF with their facial hair.Anonymous wrote:Sorry, but that definitely came across as sarcasm.
