Need help with M Series C-Flex Data

Post by atruvirgo » Fri Sep 21, 2007 9:42 pm

I finally got an M Series PRO with C-Flex. This is the first time since starting CPAP that I have a way of monitoring how I am doing. I am surprised to see that my leak rate is 7. My AHI was 15 on my sleep study and is still 8 on the CPAP. This seems high to me. Can anyone tell me what all of this means and what I can do to reduce these numbers. I am going to buy a Soyala Nasal and my DME is getting me a Quattro Full Face. This is the end of the road. I have pretty much tried all the masks I can think of. Right now I'm using the F&P 406.

I don't understand the leak rate. Respronics reads directly the leak rate which for most masks should be around 25. Check the instructions on the mask and see what the exhale leak rate should be. Never heard of one being as low as 7. Are you reading this off the LCD screen. These numbers off the screen don't give you correct data. You need Encore Pro to get correct data. AHI of 15 is still a bit high but don't base it on one night. When you get a correct leak rate it might tell you why the AHI is still high.

that machine reports leak in Liters per minute, same that shows up on the mask flow charts.

To understand where your leak rate is, you need to find the sheet that came with your mask then find your pressure on that graph, it should tell you in L/m where your leak should be for the given pressure.

Then if your leak exceeds the flow on that chart you need to figure out why.

7L/m is pretty good as long as that number hasn't been skewed from mouth breathing or excessive Large Leaks. You should consult your report for Maximum leak and duration that should tell you if that is happening.

If your AHI is at 8, you are close but no cigar, I would bump up your pressure by 1 cm and see if it drops, but 8 is really not all that bad.

You might also try resetting the LCD data to see if leak reports back the same:

To reset LCD Therapy data (does NOT erase any data from SmartCard):

1. Hold down the (<-) (->) buttons while plugging in the power on the back,
wait for 2 beeps or 5 seconds, release buttons.
2. Press the (->) key and navigate to Therapy screen.
3. Press and HOLD down the (-) minus key for 5 seconds, therapy data will reset to Zero.
4. Press the (->) key to scroll back to main menu, press (+) key to enter Setup or
On/Off button to exit.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

If you have the machine shown in your profile, it doesn't use software. I also wouldn't trust the screen readout data and if your are leaking pressure out of your mouth, that's the first problem area that need fixing. Jim

Good deal, atruvirgo. Glad you got a machine that can give you full data...best seen through software, not from the "averages" shown in the LCD.

Still working on getting software - searching every day. Hopefully the rumor of an Encore Pro "reader" version is true.
