The other night I had a sore throat so I turned up the humidity level as high as it would go. In the morning I found that the water container was empty. Does the machine automatically turn off the humidifier when this happens OR will it do some damage, etc.? Anyone know?

I asked that same question to Respronics Product Support. Below is the responce I got back:
"Dear patient,
The CPAPS were tested at a setting of 5(the highest) and a pressure of 20cm. They lasted 7 to 8 hours. There are some things which will affect that time. The first thing is a large mask leak will cause faster air flow which uses the water faster. The second is the temperature of the room (cool to cold),and the third is the humidity ( dry) in the room. These all will shorten the time which the water will last. If the water runs out before you wake, the heater will not burn up. It does not go above 145 degrees on the heating plate. That is not high enough to do any damage. If you should wake at some time, it is quite alright to add water if you wish.

It does smell a bit after a while, takes a day or so before I do not notice the smell but Pur-Sleep helps especially (clear).

Thanks for the reply. Say, I'm not familiar with "Pur-Sleep". Would you email me the info? Thanks!6PtStar wrote:I asked that same question to Respronics Product Support. Below is the responce I got back:

Re: Water run out of humidifer...what happens to the machine
I can't speak for all possible flow generator models, but in general the answer is no.Dgrendahl wrote:Does the machine automatically turn off the humidifier when this happens
No damage. The heat applied to the water is actually quite low (a few hundred watts maximum) and when no water is present will readily dissipate in the air flow through the humidifier.OR will it do some damage, etc.?
Cheers,
Bill
