Shout out to the teachers & students

Post by canyongirl » Mon Sep 10, 2007 12:00 pm

So, many of you teachers have just gone back and were starting on xpap. How are you guys doing the first few days/weeks back? notice any changes in your teaching and sleeping?

Aside...... Have you had more trouble sleeping since going back and prepping for school. My "busy" mind just won't shut off. I feel like im back to not sleeping well, but not due to apnea. Any ideas?

Best wishes to all those teachers and students out there. Lets look forward to a great school year.....

I was going to post this type of thing too...I was wondering how everyone is doing. I have been struggling a bit. I don't know if it's the drastic change in activity level or what. On one hand I have much more energy during my class... which is good b/c I have 12 three year olds half special education students. So I do a lot of dancing, jumping around and just generally need high energy. However, when I get home I have the body aches I used to have when I woke up every morning. At least I'm not waking up sore. But I'm feeling old the last two weeks in the afternoon/evening. My AHI is up a point... not significant. I'm wondering if it's because I have 1 less hour of sleep to average the apeans across. Who knows...
I've been wondering about you all. I told my assistant that I am not sure I could have managed with 3 year olds if I didn't have my machine!

Wow! Great thread!

I'm doing absolutely wonderful! I'm getting to teach mainly my primary subject area, which is art. We have had requests for kids to make art for what seems like a dozen different places! Things are busier than ever at school and I'm having to spend at leas one day a week working longer after school. I don't think I could manage it all without xPAP! I have energy enough to last the day, even the longer ones. I come home and don't just have to zonk out for a couple of hours before I can attend to things I need oir want to do once I get home. By the end of the week I'm a bit tired, but it's a normal end-of-the-week tired. I usually try to get up on Saturday mornings and attend to my mask/humidifier cleaning, but normally get a nap in at some point over the weekend. By Monday, I'm ready to go again!

It's been particularly hard the last month. I have a new boss to train, and my receptionist quit abruptly during our busiest time. I am so behind, I can't even see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm exhausted all the time. I'm sleeping fine. But I ensure this with nightly doses of Benadryl. I sleep in when I can - which is Sunday morning these days.

I come home just pooped and flop in front of the TV. I find myself not able to get up and eat until 9 or 10 pm. Then I crash.

Basically - business as usual.

Happy New School Year!

Hi I got my machine the Friday before Labor Day. That gave me three days to adjust before returning to school -- which started Aug. 22 for us. The first few days I felt like I had more energy and felt better. This week has been tough. I have been more tired -- not as exhausted as before -- but still tired and grumpy. I teach 7th to 12th grade special education. I am unsure if part of it is the number of students I have has increased and so my classes are larger than before, if its some kind of hidden stress I am not recognizing, my OSA not being fully taken care of, RLS, or what. In the middle of the day I feel as though I could take a short nap and would then feel better -- but I don't think the administration would like that . I did have a couple of days that I could use my cpap that was beyond my control and I could really tell it the next day that I wasn't using it. .

Of course I am impatient and feel as though I should be able to run marathons rignt now -- like yesterday!!

On a serious side how do you know if your numbers are right? I am unsure what type of data capacity mine has other than making sure you are compliant for insurance purposes. During my 2nd sleep study with the cpap I was at 12. The doctor ordered a pressure of between 8 and 12 and so they set me at 10. How can I be sure it is working like it should?

Thanks.

I would suggest you try Hyland's Calm Forte, it helps turn off the day for better sleep, I use it and it works pretty well:

Don't know where I got it, think at local health food store but I got a 250 count bottle for $16.99.

They make a version for RLS also.
someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...
