Don't Leave Home Without It! (Pur-sleep)

Post by LukeIamYourFather » Sun Sep 09, 2007 10:29 pm

First, I am a bit cynical by nature. When I read a few glowing reviews by Pur-sleep users, I thought, "Ya, sure".

Then I saw a post for a free trial. I might be cyncial, but I still like free stuff! I received the basic starter kit and began using it.

Using Pur-sleep aroma was a pleasant enough, and didn't seem to have any negative effects.

After a week or so of use, it "grew" on me, and I definitely seemed to be falling to sleep quicker, and back to sleep faster when awakened. I was pleased with the results, but did not realize how much it helped until I went out-of-state to visit relatives this past week....

I decided not to bother with packing up the Pur-Sleep stuff. What a mistake that was! I had a tough time falling to sleep, and it was not due to sleeping in a strange environment. I have traveled extensively in my life, and adjust quite easily to different settings.

What kept me awake was the SMELL of the rooms I slept in. It was not a strong odor, like cigarettes, just different, maybe a bit musty, hard to describe. When first entering the rooms, the aromas were not really noticeable, the rooms were clean, and did not "stink". I was not bothered by the scents until hooking up to my CPAP. Then I just could get my mind off the different smells, it took a long time to fall to sleep, and I awoke several times each night.

When I got back home, and used Pur-sleep, I fell to sleep almost immediately, even though I didn't want to (I had downloaded some new tunes on my MP3 player that I really wanted to listed to for a half hour or so before falling to sleep)

Lesson learned, never travel w/o my Pur-sleep!!

Currently using:
Fisher & Paykel HC640, heated, humidified
Respironics Optilife Mask
Innomed Hybrid Mask (to be used on occassions when nose is stuffed, etc)

Is pur sleep something you would recomend to patients from the get go? I was considering putting it in the store, but I don't want people to think I am trying to get them with "extras". I was wondering how people felt about it. How would you have felt if it was being sold at your local DME?

KSRT - I think if you have shelf space for it, you could put it out. Maybe post a flyer or brochure for folks to look at in the waiting room.

If I had been told about it my first visit - I would have scoffed. I only tried it after reading about the second trial. Even the first postings about it seemed "woo woo" to me.

In my case, I don't really notice that I'm having EXTRAORDINARY results, but then, I didn't try it until I'd already had a "breakthrough" and was sleeping through the night.

If someone had told me in the first six weeks when I was struggling that this really helped alot of people, I would have tried it then. But I didn't notice the postings until after that.

So, hard to say. I think the majority of your patients will have that initial reaction - that it's "woo woo" and frivolous. I think it's something to tell them about when they report they are struggling.

OR.................

Possibly you could create a little cheap handout/flyer with some tips on how to improve your cpap experience? Give them this forum address, tell them about Pur-Sleep? Explain that it sounds "hippie dippie" but that alot of people who ordinarily don't go the scented candle route report increased compliance and greater comfort and better sleep after trying it?

Just a thought. I'm big on handouts. Particularly those that I create myself and can update, and cheaply photocopy.

Cheers,
Babette

What babette said. That initial setup was pretty overwhelming and I had no idea how much I'd end up hating that little machine until pur-sleep came along to wean me through the transition. If I had been introduced to the idea during the initial setup that woudl be have been better than trying to make a sale right then.

Pur-sleep REALLY helped me calm down and relax so I could actually, honestly sleep with my cpap for the first time. I don't do a night without it!

So maybe you could introduce the idea during the initial setup as something to try if you're having trouble. I also don't think a passive display is a bad way to go either--people who are interested will check it out and not feel like they're being sold.

But definitely tell people about it. If you read the threads here the stuff has really helped people. I'm very glad to have found out about it!

I've been enjoying my Pur Sleep system the past few nights. The first night I used WAY too many drops of the lavender stuff. I had to move the unit across the room. However since then I've been putting just one drop on the diffuser pad and it works great! I was having a problem staying asleep for the last couple of weeks and this seems to have done the trick! I also had read a few of the threads and was thinking this will be perfect for when we go visit the in-laws at Thanksgiving and Christmas. We usually sleep in the basement on air mattresses with the dogs and while I have never noticed a real "smell" there, once we get home I don't like how the machine doesn't smell like OUR home.

Kimberly, oooooo........... I never thought of that before. That the machine wouldn't smell like HOME when I got home. The only trip I've taken it on so far, I brought the Pur-Sleep with me, and didn't notice anything when I got home.

Thanks for putting that in my head. It will definitely reinforce it to me that I NEED the PurSleep! IT'S A NECESSARY MEDICAL DEVICE!

Bret, you need to sell those little tags on your site.

LOL,
B.

I am rapidly approaching my 1st anniversary of xpap therapy. Have been using pur-sleep for almost 7 months. I travel almost on a weekly basis and pur-sleep is part of my "little quart bag". Pur-sleep has improved my compliance rate and is part of my life away from xpap.

Maybe if an "ampul" of pur-sleep could be devised for the first time user it might help them with treatment and allow them to judge if it is something they would like to use and buy for helping with their therapy. This then might allow OTC sales to increase.

Best regards,

Fred

They sell a nice travel bag as well for $9.95 if you want to go hard core . I also bought a second diffuser, extra pads, and some of my favorite scents. I keep this packed in my CPAP travel case so it's one less thing to fuss with before my biz travels. With some hotel rooms it's a must for musty air conditioners and heaters.

You say you pack this in your CPAP bag? Don't they question the liquid? I assumed I'd need to put the vials of oils in my quart bag of toiletries.

Cheers,
Barbara

Your point is well taken for carry-on, but I always check-in my suitecase. I used to carry-on whenever I could, but over the years I have given up and just check-in the darn thing. Hate fighting for space on overhead, worrying about what TSA might find/take, deciding on a minimal set of clothes to be compact, and lugging the luggage around on layovers or delays. And especially now since my bag needs to be bigger for extra piece of "equipment" . It probably only wastes time on my travels on arrival. But even then, a cowboy killer outside and the bags are ready for pickup.

But if I did carry-on, I would certainly keep the bottles in those silly plastic bags. Come to think of it, a very small bottle with a "funny" label would look suspicious .

SithLord and everyone else -- I'm totally with you on this one. I travel a lot more than I like and always brought those room smells back with me in my gear for at least two extra nights after I'd get back home. And when I have to take the occasional smoking room--double yuck. I have never slept better on the road since I picked up this stuff. And I went hardcore a few months ago and bought an extra diffuser and travel bag. Makes traveling convenient and a lot more pleasant!

Thanks pur-sleep!

Well, I had a surprise. I started using the Pur-sleep a week ago.. I had always worried that the air blowing toward my DH would be a bother and had tried to turn away or he would turn away from me. Now the Lavendar aroma comes through the machine and hose and wouldn't you know it. He turns toward me ,hugs me up and I do believe it is because he also wants the benefit of breathing the Lavendar. And so we sleep. ha.ha....You might say a two for one.

It is indeed very nice. Thanks ..Pur-sleep

Stated like only Babette can--I definitely need to get some official looking labels: PUR-SLEEP IS A NECESSARY MEDICAL DEVICE. I should also petition the TSA to promulgate special carry-on rules for pur-sleep!

And needingu--you're not the only one whose S/O is enjoying this stuff. TXKajun's wife liked it so much that she safety-pinned a pad on her pillowcase and uses it every night, too! Pur-Sleep for Two!
Try the Scented CPAP Mask with Pur-Sleep's CPAP Aromatherapy--CPAP Diffuser and Essential Oils.

Bump for a good thread - Pursleep has really made traveling with my cpap at least much more tolerable than it used to be. I don't have the luxury of staying in expensive rooms and often end up with a smoking room (I don't smoke). Anyway it used to take three days to get the smells out of my machine sometimes.

I am very happy I found this stuff! It's much easier to relax and sleep on the road believe it or not.
