Post by cindyh » Sun Sep 09, 2007 12:48 pm

I am just wondering which full face seems to work best or not work on side sleepers who move a lot. i tried the 431 as in my other post but after i went to sleep it stayed in large leak all night...

which one does or doesnt work for you and are there side sleeper fixes.?

I'm a side-sleeper and (I think) flip over a few times a night.

My masks are the Ultra Mirage Full Face and the Quattro.
I like the extra air flow inside the UMFF as it has a slightly higher vent flow rate (high 30's to low 40's VFR) but the Quattro seals extremely well and is very quiet (low to mid 30's VFR). My pressure is 12 cm.
So far, I can't tell much (if any) difference in the therapy provided by the two.

I have been using the Quattro for the last few months.

I am a side sleeper and a roller. I start on my left side and roll over to my right side and then completing the circle. A few times, and I look like the Michelin man with the hose wrapped around my neck.

I have use other full masks and this is by far the best for me.

I have a full, round face and it works well for me.

I'm an "active" sleeper as well. The Quattro works for me.

Good Luck

I also am a side sleeper and full face mask user. The Quattro has proven to work best for me. I don't necessarily roll around in my sleep but will generally wake up every few hours with mild hip pain requiring me to switch sides. The design contour of the Quattro really is excellent for side sleeping with a FF.

I use the 431 and haven't had any problems. I use a memory foam pillow and the pillow just sort of forms around the mask. During my sleep study they used a small and kept having to adjust it. That is what they ordered for me on my script but I complained to the DME and they set me up with the med and I received the other two sizes -- small and large -- so figured I didn't have anything to lose. I feel that the med is the size I need and have used it for over a week without any major problems.

Give another point to the Quattro on my behalf.

I've tried the F&P 431 and Comfortfull 2 - both leaked when I slept on my side.

The Quattro stays sealed.

Memory foam pillow and Ultra Mirage Full Face mask has been a winning combination for me for over 2 years now.

The 431 works pretty well for me. It takes a while to get it seated properly, then moving around usually doesn't cause leaks.

UMFF didn't leak with moving from side to side either - but the profile of it cut into my cheekbones too much, so I have not stuck with it.

Comfortlite 2 is too wide on my face and I never could get it to stop leaking out of my lower cheeks - where the mask is the widest.

Haven't tried the Quattro - but it may be my next trial, especially with all the positive reports here.

Side-sleeper here. I only move around a lot if I'm having a bad night; on my good nights I wake up in the same position I went to sleep. But I do have at least half bad nights still.

I use the Hybrid and it works great for me, I use a special pillow for side/back sleepers and the edges are raised to support your neck when you're on your side. So my face is at the very edge of the pillow and the mask sticks off.

Another vote for the Quattro. It seems to work for me.

If you can handle the nasal pillows on this full face mask it works great for "active sleepers" I had no problems with leaks when switching side to side. I just could not breath thru the nasal pillows.

Without a doubt, the Mirage Quattro has worked the best for me.
I move around a bit, but mostly sleep on my side. The Soyala FF and the Ulltra Mirage FF are the only others that I would also recommend

If you are using a foam pillow, get out your Turkey carving knife and cut a spot out for the mask, then you can use any one you want.

I just hang mine (mask) off the edge of the pillow, I bring the hose under the pillow and back up so it stays in place.

I try to use the nasal mask most of the time, I seem to get better therapy.

UMFF and memory foam pillow

Post by jburnham » Tue Sep 18, 2007 5:40 am

After reading this thread, I went and found my Tempurpedic pillow and washed the covering. I had forgotten how heavy that thing is - I didn't move it all night. Last night was the best night's sleep I've had in years. I'm hoping to get a Quattro tonight, but the UMFF and memory foam pillow worked great.
