My Swift pillow interface came today

Post by photogal » Fri May 06, 2005 3:54 pm

Hi ya'll,
Most of you know I am a mouth breather and have an Unltra Mirage FF mask.
I got just real jealous, though, because most of you have multiple masks.
So I ordered the Swift pillows, don't have a clue how I'll keep my mouth shut, but will look in my drawers and see if I can find a headband. Maybe scrounge up some tape.
Whatever, I'm going to give this new interface a test drive tonight. I'm so excited, I'm so excited...how does that song go?

Congrats Photo, I love my Swifty, each day I get better at putting it on and getting a good seal that lasts through the night. It's funny how subtle the adjustments are to these things and how big the benefits are.

.... just be careful on your use of the word "drawers"...

LOL, IWannaSleep!!
On the Swift, I'm just trying to figure out how I'll know which size pillows will work.

One of the nicest things about the Swift is that it comes with all three sizes of nasal pillows. You can try all of them in one night, if you wish!

Just let Echo pick the first one for you to try. But get it before she actually takes hold of it with her beak, or you may have just two to try out!

You are going to love it freedaom wise. A little tip that works for me is I con nected the smaller hose that came with it using the velcro band that came with it right where the headdress comes to my ear. Now it does not shift at all and I go all night without losing my seal. I started out thinking I would use the mediujm and they did work but after trying all, the large seal the best. I wish I could find an extra large pair to try. Anyone get them and not have it work out, want to do a trade?

I am still loving my swift!

Mouth is kept closed with a headband or jamming a pillow up under my chin.

Good luck!
I think it makes me look like a dashing scuba diver, don't you?

Well, fellow CPapers, I had my first night on the Swift. I couldn't believe it was so easy, other than putting it on backwards and thinking, "What the heck?" Didn't take me long to change that.
One set of pillows was already on when I received it, so I just left them on.
Magically, it seems I got a seal immediately.
I couldn't find a headband. Guess I finally tossed them all. Looked for tape, and the only things I had were band-aids and packaging tape. I put a bandaid across my lips and packaging tape over that. Initially I thought my skin was not reacting well with the packaging tape, but it quit feeling sensitive and I went to sleep like a baby.
I did want to change which side the hose was connected to, but couldn't quite figure that out. I'm so afraid if I tug too hard on something I'll break it. I think those softer plastic pieces that have a tab are what you pull on, but not sure, or is it the round hard cap? I saw the illustration where you take everything apart, but that is for cleaning. They didn't have an illustration showing just simply what you take apart to change the hose from one side to the other.
Whatever, fear & trepidition made me finally leave it alone after firm tugging didn't work. I finally used the velcro thingy and attached the hose above my head.
Sometime in the night, I tossed the rig and ripped off the tape. This is nothing but a habit, and I need to tell myself to leave the danged thing ALONE.
But redeeming myself, I awoke maybe an hour later (probably an apnea event) and picked it up and put it back on. No tape, no chin strap, and hey, I slept for another 2 hours and maintained the seal! For a mouth breather, thats primo. I know I maintained the seal as my mouth was moist, and I think if I'd opened my mouth, the flutter would have awakened me, right? Whatever, I logged more hours with the Swift pillows than I ever have with the Ultra Mirage.
I realize one night does not make for a success story. But initially, I really like the Swift.
One thing...I awoke for the first time all congested, nose and lungs. Sneezing, coughing. Is this common?

I never woke with the congestion, sneezing and coughing so I wonder if you just had allergies that night to something else maybe? Glad you are liking it though. I am liking it more and more, in fact am using it 80/20 to the Activa!

Waking all congested, sneezing and coughing is what happens if I don't use my heated humidifier... Maybe you reacted to all the air pumping through there... I forget are you using a humidifier?

Photogal, I don't know about your humidifier, but if I turn my machine off (Remstar Auto with C-Flex and heated humidifier) and then turn it back on, I have to remember to turn the heated humidifier back on, too.

Since you mentioned waking up with mask off in the middle of the night, and getting all organized and started again, perhaps the heated humidifier was inadvertently left "off" for the remainder of the night?

Glad to hear the Swift is doing well for you!

I can't count the number of times I've done this. ...And yes I then wake up sneezing and congested.
Sincerely,

I think you are right. I know I turn the heat on to begin with, but I do believe when I picked the mask up and put it on again, I didn't turn on the heat. For one thing, the machine turned itself back on! I didn't know it would do that. I put it on my face and was still adjusting things, when I guess my breathing made it come on. So no, I didn't turn the heat back on.
I'll remember that.
I still threw it off last night some time, but this time didn't put it back on. I will work on that.
I absolutely love the way I can wear this unit and have my reading glasses on while I read until I'm sleepy.
