Do we loose our ability to Cope?

Post by Dave2you » Sat Sep 01, 2007 5:43 pm

I noticed when my machine went down for two days. it was like I was hit by a bus.

I Couldn't think, Remember or Drive, all I wanted to do was laY down and sleep. going to work was rough.

I don't remember ever being that bad, because we loose the day to day feel of being whiped out, that it hits us harder.

like always hearing a loud bell, Soon you barely hear it. but go a few months without it, then clank it again, and see if you Cringe more:

today is the First day where my machine worked the night before, ahh so much better. I feel like a cpap Sunky, Need my sleep Fix. LoL

I know what you mean, Dave2you! My machine broke a few weeks ago - at midnight - as I was going to bed. I was already late getting to bed on a work night, and needed every scrap of sleep I was planning on getting before my alarm at 5:30. I guess there is no good time for equipment failure, but this was bad timing for me!

I had one of the worse nights of my life that night and I had a presentation at work the next day. I looked and felt like I had been on an all-night binge. All I could think about during the presentation was sleep. I started thinking of how I could rig a bunch of stuff from the old aquarium together to blow air up my nose! A junkie needing a fix.

I remembered my neighbor had a old machine and I borrowed it for two days until the backup machine I bought from cpap.com arrived. I've been on the backup machine for about a month now. I received notice my main machine has been repaired and will be back in my bedroom next Thursday!

I think before, I had no idea what I was missing. I didn't know what good sleep was all about. Now that I know what sleeping is supposed to feel like, I won't ever give it up!

Man, do I agree. My surgery was a month ago. I couldn't use my machine for the first week. Then useage was spotty and limited for the next week to two weeks. I've been back to 100% compliance for a week now and I still feel like crap. I slept 12 hours last night and was grouchy and sleepy most of today. I can't wait to get over this freaking hump! Three weeks of bad sleep take a while to get over. It is shocking since I was feeling like a million bucks the day of the surgery.

Last night was my first night with my machine and I have felt better today than I have in along time. I am still tired but not exhausted. It seemed like it took all the energy I had just to make it through the day and didn't have the energy for doing all the little things most people take for granted. Yikes -- hope your machine is back and ready to go!! That must be awful having it go bonkers on you!

I know what you mean. I've made a point to have a backup to make sure I don't have to go without my oxygen at night.

Hey, Blarg! Good to see you!

A back up isn't a bad idea. Do you have any consituencies (sp?) for power outages? I want something simple and cheap. I doubt if it exists.

How is Aus treating you?

Backup machine idea

Post by vester1 » Sun Sep 02, 2007 12:01 pm

I have been on cpap for 2.5 yrs. now. I have a Remstar Pro 2 C-Flex CPAP w/ humidifier. After reading this post I got to thinking, what would I do if one night my machine broke. I can't image going 2-4 weeks without. I don't know the reliability of a cpap machine. I bought my system direct from cpap.com. I don't know how quick the turn around time is if I were to send my machine to them and if by chance they couldn't fix my machine for one reason are another. I really don't want to spend $450.00 for another machine for backup; and it sit maybe for 2-3yrs. and not be used.

Does anyone have any suggestions???

Yep, me too on both of those.....about the same amount of time and same machines. I started getting nervous about the time I was approaching a year (actually, it was before that), but then purchased a slightly used REMstar Auto from one of our well respected forum members and then bought another Auto from CPAP.COM about this time last year.
I rotate them monthly. Each month is a different machine, but I think the Pro 2 gets a little more use than the other two.....it's my sentimental favorite......and it's quiet.

I NEVER want to be without one.

I definetly need a back up. I have been on cpap for about 5 years and recently went for a retitration sleep study. They had to do a split study with me off of my cpap for at least 2 hours(for the insurance company, to prove I still had apnea), needless to say i did not sleep for more than a total of 3 hours that night. Woke up and felt like a truck hit me. Had to return the next week for the titratration part. Thankfully I received a sript for a new autopap and now have a much needed back up machine.
