Remsrar Pro Mseries died

Post by Dave2you » Fri Aug 31, 2007 7:51 pm

So for two weeks my Remstar Pro has been acting up. then the night before last it started whining like a Dentist drill whenever I took a breath.

this got louder and louder and the pressure goes down.

Then Wednesday night, Poof it really gets bad, I sleep horrible, and fall asleep behind the wheel on the way to work. almost ate a pole.

Desparate, I call and they Say they are going to Call me back to come
out and look. -No call

next night, my wife tells me I start making loud choking Sounds with the mask on. she tries to wake me up but I Keep choking. after some Scary moments I Start snoring. that was It, she Said she almost called 911.

she didn't sleep another minute. Stayed up all night to make sure I was okay.

she gets on the phone the Next morning with them and gets the Same run around I got.

but unlike me. she is a nurse and knows her beans. she Just kept calling and Calling.in the end she told them that by not helping us until Next week they are willing to take full medical Responsibility for me until then. If Something happens, they will own up to it?

two hours later there was a Rep at the door. with a replacement machine.

except they had no Cpap. left, so the did an even Swap and gave me a Remstar Auto A-FLex

they said it was a better machine, but they would Swap even

I had Ct-ex-I wonder if AFlex is better?.

heck yeah the A-Flex is a much better and more expensive machine, it is also an Autopap where your old machine was a straight CPAP.

What ever you do don't let them call you back and say "we have your Pro machine all repaired" and need to swap it back with the loaner.

Tell them they have the wrong number or something (play dumb always works).

Make sure the Aflex is set up correctly, what was your pressure on the old machine and what is the AFlex set to?

Your old pressure should fall within the range on the Aflex and/or you could set the Auto:Min pressure to the same as your old machine, give the Auto:Max a much higher setting so it can go on up if needed.

Here is detailed info on the M Series Auto. Obviously, put in your own pressures.

Respironics M Series Auto with C-flex/A-Flex:

1. Hold down the <- -> buttons while plugging in the power on the back, wait 2 beeps, release buttons.
2. Press the + key. <- -> buttons move to next field, -/+ keys decrement/increment
3. Check the following field(s):

-Therapy Mode=AFLEX (CFLEX/AFLEX)

-Auto:Max=12 (default=20.0cm)

-Auto:Min=8.0 (default=4.0cm)

-CFlex/AFLEX Setting=2 (options are off, 1, 2 or 3)

-AutoRamp Time=30 (options are 05 to 45 min)

-AutoRamp Pressure=6.0cm (4cm->AutoMin)

-Mask Alert Feature=ON (On/Off)

-Auto Off Feature=Off (On/off)

-Split Night Time = Off (off, 120, 180, 240)

-Show AHI/Leak Feature=ON (On/Off)

Press On/Off button to exit.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

Don't look back. It can be run on C-Flex or A-flex. Some folks like A-Flex a few don't. But the machine they gave you will do it all. It will run in CPAP or Auto. If you don't like it I will trade

It's those moments, that I'm glad I married a nurse!

Anyway, glad everything turned out alright for you.

I asked him I was going to get the old one back, he said no, that this was my machine now.

Cool beans for me...

Thanks for the tips by the way, hehe I went in and reset it. My pressure is 13, so I turned on the aflex with a min pressure of 13 and a max pressure of 16, giving a overhead of three if I am having a bad night.

If they try and take it back, I will be bumed. I don't think they will. My wife let them have it, and to deal with her again LOL

You can use any setting you want, but I would start with AFlex #2 you can then go up or down and see the difference.

If that 13cm is too high to fall asleep, you can set up Auto:Ramp with like a pressure of 8.0 and a 30 minute timer.

Then when you put on the mask machine will start, you can push the Ramp button, it will drop from 13 cm to 8.0 (or whatever you want to use) and then it will ramp up .5cm every 5 minutes until it reaches the 30 minutes or 13cm pressure.

Most events seen during that first 30 minutes is garbage anyway.

With that machine you can have your higher pressure for a lower AHI yet still take advantage of the lower Ramp for falling asleep.

I posted last week about my M Series Auto BiPAP it lost pressure during the night after turning it off and letting it sit for about 10 min it was back at pressure but being afraid it would happen again I took it in but they didn't do anything about it loosing pressure because it didn't record anything strange just said if it happened again that they would swap out the machine. Of course I was a bit worried about it happening again. Well it did happen again on Wednesday this week. I woke up with a splitting headache on top of it lost 2-3 hours of sleep. The freaken headache was so bad after taking Ibuprofen six at a time all day and still didn't barely soften it. So I called in the morning and they didn't call me back all day... Stupid me should of just walked in then because being completely out of it I had called again right before they were suppose to "close" and of course got the typical voice mail so I left a really testy message, I had also in my haze forgotten I had to head down to Corvallis to play in the Alumni Marching band for the Oregon State University vs Utah football game which meant I wouldn't be able to wait around all day Thursday waiting for a call again plus I felt I couldn't go two nights without it. So I decided after I hadn't gotten a call back by 10 am to drop in and politely demand something to be done. This time I wasn't able to get help from the helpful tech. This tech practically called me an idiot telling me every which way that I couldn't of possibly been able to tell that the pressure had become nearly non existent, like I couldn't possibly be able to tell when the machine wasn't blowing out at a pressure of 20. By the time he was about to send me off with the same machine he left the room to go try and get the Tech I had before so he could tell me it was all in my head too, but he couldn't find him. While he was out I told my husband being very frustrated as I was and upset that I refused to sleep with that machine again an if he wouldn't exchange it then we'd just leave it because we hadn't made any payments on it yet, and pretty much at that point said I would be through with treatment because we don't have the money to get a BiPAP anywhere else and it would probably take us close to a year to save up. Anyway I'm kind of ashamed to say when he came back in and said he was sending us off with the same machine, I broke down crying and told him I couldn't believe he refused to believe me, and I was to scared to sleep with that machine again. It did make him do an about take and he finally agreed to swap out machines with a new one. It took me braking down into tears to get him to do it, even though he kept saying that he didn't think that would fix any problem pretty much said in not so many words because it was all in my head... Thinking about it now makes me so mad.

I wish I would of remembered the fact that I had been awaken earlier this week by the machine making higher pitched whining sounds not so loud as a dentist drill, but it stopped after a few min. Of course if I would of mentioned this he probably would of said something about how I must of been mistaken...

Good luck with the new machine.

YES... you got a great replacement deal. Take it, use it and enjoy the difference. Even should you not like A-FLEX for some reason, you can switch the mode on that machine to C-FLEX, Auto C-FLEX... straight CPAP. It's a nice unit.

Congratulations, Dave and Christy, on your new machines. It's good to hear of something working out well.

Error 47?

Post by Guest » Sun Sep 02, 2007 3:37 am

After what I thought was a good night sleep, I awoke, turned off the unit, and a beep alarm sounded with E-47 on the display. Does anyone know what "error 47" is, and if it is something that can be reset. I have the RemStar unit with CFlex.
