M-series pro w/clex pressure settings

Post by geoDoug » Sat Jun 23, 2007 9:52 am

First a little background in case you don't remember: when I started, the DME gave me a fairly old low-end machine (remstar plus w/o cflex). I called the DME and specified I wanted an m-series pro w/c-flex. Well, apria said they'd exchange what they gave me IF I could get an Rx from the Dr. for that exact machine and the insurance would pay for it. (Quite a series of "ifs" eh?)

It looks like I've cleared the first hurdle. I called the sleep clinic yesterday to follow up. They put the script in the mail on Wednesday, so I should have it today at the latest.

Now for my question, which is related to brenstiredmom's thread about pressure settings: Since I didn't have c-flex it didn't occur to me to specify this. Since . It turned to cflex settings, which hadn't even occurred to me. Do I need to call the sleep clinic back and ask them to also specify a pressure setting for the c-flex? Or do I have to get another prescription???

Doug.

NO! Change your machine!!!

Before it's too late, Doug --- DON'T BUY THE M-SERIES! Get a REMStar Pro Auto w/ C-Flex. See my post below about REMStar vs. M-Series. You won't regret it. As far as the prescription, the Auto automatically is set from 4-20. But my doc provided the settings on the scrip anyway. Guess it depends on your doc.

But seriously, there may be folks who disagree with me (of course), but the M-Series is really not all that great.

Hey Doug, I have the machine you are interested in.. The REMstar Pro on mine has the C-flex with it and it is a setting the user can adjust without software. The other setting you can adjust if it is programmed to be allowed by the DME is the ramp. You can adjust the pressure it starts at. I believe both of those options need to be turned on by the DME using the smart card and Encore Pro software. Once they are turned on, you can make the adjustments at home. The pressure settings for the C-flex are 1, 2 and 3.

Nothing cures insomnia like the realization that it's time to get up!

P.S. - If you stay with your M-Series

You can buy ANY home health user's manual on eBay...Just type in "CPAP" in your search from the home page. This is the manual that you don't get with your machine. It has all the instructions on how to change settings, etc.

Why the Hell would anybody spend good money to BUY a manual when they've been posted all over this site and other places (for FREE).

Good Thought.

I didn't buy one. Mine came with my machine since I bought it from CPAP.com. I haven't browsed this forum enough to know that the manuals were posted. Good thought.... Just trying to be helpful.

There is NO such thing. (It's either an Auto ("Classic/Tank"), a Pro 2 ("Classic/Tank"), an M Series Pro, or an M Series Auto)

I'm partial to the "Classic/Tank" machines, too.....but Doug may have a problem convincing his insurance provider to make the leap to the "Auto" (whatever flavor).

It's an Auto Classic tank. Thanks for correcting me, Den. So many names...Anyway, I think it's better.

I'm sure I wouldn't regret it. When I had narrowed it down to two machines, it was between that and the m-series pro. I don't remember why I chose one over the other. That said, I'm confident in my decision to go with the m-series pro.

Exactly what I was looking for. You answered my question. Now that you mention it, I remember seeing conversations here about the c-flex being a user-adjustable 1-2-3 setting (I think of it as "cm h2o Pressure for Dummies" by IDG books, which leads me to wonder if there's a CPAP for dummies.), not a cm/H2O setting.

Doug.

geoDoug,

Many people DO have the clinician's manuals and are more than willing to tell you, like they did for me, how to set anything you don't understand. So when you get your new machine just ask!!

There's nothing wrong with the M-Series Pro. Mine's been chugging along without incident for a year now. Buy with confidence...

cpap vs bipap

Post by kindsoul » Fri Aug 31, 2007 8:20 pm

Hi all
All this talk about Cpaps! Have any of you tried bipaps? They are so nice compared to cpap. The pressure stops when you exhale making breathing easier. Especially for people with high pressure settings 15+ it can be difficult to breathe out. GO BIPAP
