Interesting....I"m in that same boat. I am hoping that with the CPAP treatment, drinking more water and getting some exercise in (as energy levels allow) I will lose weight too. I could stand to lose 100 pounds....I could be happy if I lost just that much.

Diet soda? They could have at least explained what they mean by that.

Here's a link regarding diet soda and obesity: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/06/ ... 1408.shtml

In my own experience, I've found that I gain weight faster when I drink diet pop and lose it faster when I give it up. I've been backsliding for the last couple of weeks and really need to give it up again.

I drink diet pop all the time and yet I have LOST 70 lbs since February and started CPAP in May. I don't buy the diet pop connection in all people. In fact, WAAAAY back over 10 years ago when I switched to it, I dropped a quick 30lb, but then I gained it back thanks to poor portion control.

At least 10 years ago in our office, keeping large containers of water on one's desk and sipping on them all day long was in vogue. People believed they would lose weight if they drank large volumes of water.

Some wag made an observation about people from another planet visiting our office for the first time. The aliens would think that drinking large amounts of water made humans fat because the fat ones were the only ones drinking the water.

You figure the rest out about diet sodas.

I try to drink at least 64 ounces of water per day. sometimes more. I also started drinking diet sodas when I started to modify my lifestyle to promote weight loss and improve general health. I have since stopped them entirely and gone back to water with a low-calorie add-in such as Crystal Light. There is a lot of sodium in them and the colorants can't be good for a body either. I also tend to stay to the light/clear Crystal Light flavors as well.

Yes, I can't say whether or not the artificial sweeteners increase cravings for sweets for everyone (I've seen that they do for me), but what I really notice are the effects of sodium. That's not limited to diet pop, of course, because regular pop and plenty of other things have lots of sodium, but I prefer the taste of diet to regular pop. If I drink a lot of it, my lower legs and feet swell. In fact, during one warm, humid spell last spring when I was drinking about 1.5 liters/day for a few days, I could hardly get my shoes on because my feet were so swollen. That disappeared after I stopped drinking it.

My practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine has me drink a tisane made from dried artichoke leaves after each meal, and while it's not the greatest taste in the world, it really helps with digestion and getting rid of excess water.
