I'm not sure what you mean about NT and 2000 being a POS? Both where very successful in their target market (there where never intended or marketed directly to consumers). NT basically single handedly destroyed the Novell Netware market, its pretty hard to say that that was not successful.
LOL Novell still hasn't recovered!!!!!!!! I know how to use Novell but hate it with a passion!

Yeah, I've been using Windows since version 3.1 and 2000 was the first version where it really seemed like they had got it right. And then of course XP, which was so good that it's still butchering their Vista sales.

But Vista is a good OS. I resisted upgrading until a few weeks ago, but it is very nice and stable. I use the 64-bit version on my machine, but even the 32-bit version runs suprisingly well on my old machine, which the kids are using now. Of course my "old" machine is still better than 80% of the computers out there (part of being a tech geek) - dual core AMD X2 3800+ with 2GB RAM. My new machine is a quad core with 4GB, so it runs pretty sweet.

My new machine is a quad core with 4GB, so it runs pretty sweet. Very Happy

(wiping the drool off my face) Hey if you ever want to donate that to me I wouldn't complain, I could only wish to be able to afford a new setup like that.

I build them myself, which saves a LOT of money. I built this whole system for like $1100, including a new 22" widescreen LCD. A buddy of mine looked at ordering a quadcore from Dell, and they wanted to charge $769 to upgrade to the quad core from a dual core. They are definitely ripping people off, because the chip itself is under $300 and was only $50 more than a comparable dual-core chip.

We've built machines from parts a couple of times. And other times we've bought them pre done but added and upgraded ourselves later.

But damn that sounds like a nice setup. Getting new computers in our house is a slow process, cause if I get one I gotta get two others for the other two in the house that own one lol.

LOL same here except it's with me and my husband if I get one he does too. We are upgrading ourselves not anywhere that nice but we are waiting on our copies of XP to arrive since except for my laptop which runs XP we only run Win 98 on our others. No upgrade to Vista here, been screwed over by upgrading to soon to often in the past. Really really regret that purchase of Windows ME, which was only on my system for about 30 min before I decided it sucked and reformatted and put Win 98 back on.

We practice more of a trickle-down computer economy here. When I get a new computer, that means my wife and kids get my old computer, so that helps to get the all important spousal approval.

I upgrade about every 2 years, and usually build a machine just a notch below the best available at the time (because you pay a huge premium for the BEST, but drop down a notch or two and it's quite reasonable). Anyway, since the systems start out so good, they are still usually very capable when they get handed down.

I still have DOS 6.2 disks...and I pray for a return to the days where punching
"OFF" meant the machine quit. Commodore 64s looking better and better

Will 1.8 work with Win Pro 2000 and xp sp2?
Installing Software is like pushing a rope uphill.
I have Encore Pro 1.8.65 but could not find it listed
under software.

I LOVE the SV.
