leak rate formula please

Post by Ms Piggy » Thu Aug 23, 2007 4:15 pm

Will someone please tell me how I work out my leak rate, I just CANNOT remember. I have the cpap pressure/ flow rate data for my mask.

I have few apneas etc and leaks are below 1.9. If I have few apneas etc does that mean I don't need to worry too much about the leak rate?

2 yrs and I still get headaches at times and my memory is not the greatest, but overall I AM better than before treatment.
thank you.

p.s. I did try the search thing but I can't get it to work for me.

Ms Piggy

We may need more info before we can help.

What machine do you have (am guessing a Respironics one) and what mask do you have ? what CMS are you on ? - do you have access to nightly data (have you got the software to read the data from the machine - am guessing not)

With the answer to these questions it is possible to help.

Good luck

Ms Piggy

Good set up

Re flow rate - at 7 CMS your fixed leak rate is approx 20 lpm

What leak rate is the machine telling you it is seeing ? (PS I gather you are running the machine in CPAP mode ?)

leak rate

Post by Ms Piggy » Sat Aug 25, 2007 10:11 pm

Hi dsm,
I run the pb420e on apap set for min 6 , max 10 pressure. and usually run along at 6 and 7- occasionally a bit higher.
Hope the following is the leak rate you asked for
average .97 low .58 High 1.96 . that is over 19 dyas for 90 hrs 15 mins
It was lower than that last month ave.71 low.51 H 1.22.

last month I used the large size pillows, re the dme fitting, as they f eel so big, I have, for the last 19 days, gone back to the medium - but do find that the rt one has a tendency to leak a bit, even though I use a tie across my face below the vent.
Are runs a sign of restricted breathing, ie slowing down?
thanks again for your input.

The 420E reports litres per second, so whatever number you get from the reports, you have to multiply by 60.

We need to know your average pressure in order to know the meaning of your average leak rate, but it you're indeed at the low part of your range, you're leaking too much.

With my average pressure at 7.1 (lowest 6.9) and the Aura, my high leak rate is 0.42 lps which translates to .42*60 = 25.2 lpm. (Edit: corrected calcutlation ,mistake...)

If you export the data (you have to save the SL3 report file before you do that) you can find important, leak related data in the file that has a 96H extension.

You'll have data for the following:
Pressures Time % Computed Max leak Measured leak Min measured leak Max measured leak

% Measured leak > Computed Max leak

And you'll have this data for each pressure you're at - and the percent of time you spent in that pressure.

The columns on the data file are separated by a semi-colon, and if you open the file in either excel or word, you have to let the program know that the semi-colon is the column separator.

PM me if you need more help in that.

O.
