Damn roosters (no not you Rooster) & CPAP
Damn roosters (no not you Rooster) & CPAP
Sooooo.... before CPAP I was dead to the world, no amount of alarm clocks, partners, earthquakes, light, sounds, or anything could ever wake me up. Kinda handy sometimes but not really useful for getting to work on time. Note I'm a night person...
I've been on CPAP since August 1, and each day or so I've noticed small and gradual improvements. The doc upped my pressed from 7 to 10 after a week, and it was working better, and I was feeling better. This week I moved into a new apartment- turns out the neighbors have a whole chicken coup in the backyard, and for the last 5 nights, I have woken up EVERY MORNING AT 5 !$#~!&^!?#&?!# a.m. to the durn ROOSTER crowing. GRRRRRR
Apart from being extreeeeemely annoying, this is really bizarre to actually experience. I know others have said the same thing on this forum, so I just wanted to add to that, the better the therapy works, the better I'm able to get up in the morning (intentionally or otherwise)... and i just wanted complain about the roosters a bit as well...
On a slightly related note, just for fun I upped the pressure from 10 to 11.5 last night (I noticed that I hadn't been sleeping well again), and this morning I woke up SO REFRESHED! Wow! Maybe it was a fluke, but I'm sticking to this pressure for a couple of days. I'm working with the sleep doc on changing the pressure (she actually "lets" me do it myself), because she was concerned about some central apneas that occurred at high pressures during the titration, and she's not a fan of Auto PAPs. In any case I will ask for my prescription and get an auto w/ data soon (I'm thinking of the PB 420e), and my oxygen meter should arrive soon along with my new Activa can't wait!
Enough ranting for today!

Oh cool! Another one for the Activa! I hope you have an easy time with the fitting. If you can get comfy with it, you'll love it! Glad to hear that you're doing well! Yea, I've noticed the same thing with the noises. The other morning the buzzer on the dryer woke me up about twenty minutes before my alarm. I was refreshed, but mad that I could have stayed alseep a few minutes longer LOL! I don't have as much desire to sleep in, but sometimes do it anyway just because I want to, not because I need it. My uncle used to raise chickens too, so I know how you feel! They are so annoying!

Ohhhh yeah we are having some chicken stew soon Reminds me of the Friends episode when Rachel kept waking up from the Rooster. How did she solve the problem??
Drummergirl- yeah it was you and a few others who convinced me to just order it and try it (after my Crappy classic mask rant!). Though I must say it was probaby just a matter of getting used to this silly mask, it's not so bad these days, but it still leaks, and i've now managed to get a permanent red mark on the bridge of my nose. Yeah I know people will say i'm not adjusting it right, it's too tight, blahblahblah but if i raise it further up my nose it leaks from the lower lip of the mask and around the eyes, if i lower it it works but then i get the nose problem. oh well. Oh yeah also it's LOUD , totally perfect for Darth Vader impressions.

I'm sure if you've tried all that hard that mask just isn't the right one for you. You'll absolutely love the Activa if it fits good. It's a good mask! It seals very well and its't that loud in straight CPAP mode. I find a bit moreso in auto or EPR, but it's still not so disturbing you can't ignore it. When you tri it let us know how it goes.

Will do! I ordered from CPAP.com but with shipping to Europe costing more than the price of the mask, I had it's sent to my mom (in the US), who then sent it to me with USPS. Hope it arrives and doesnt get delayed in customs or something!
BTW glad to hear the school thing's going well so far Hope it gets better (those kids need you! )

Sounds like a plan! Hopefully that will work for you!
Awww, thanks! So far so good! We've had teacher workdays so far. I took CPR and First Aid today and that was really interesting. The kids will be back on Monday. I'm looking forward to seeing how much they've all grown! And having the clarity of mind and energy to teach the socks off of them!

Roosters make a very passable chicken stew. And chicken noodle soup as well.

Wars arise from a failure to understand one another's humanness. Instead of summit meetings, why not have families meet for a picnic and get to know each other while the children play together?

As a child, we lived next door to a chicken coop complete with rooster. While that rooster crowed, I never recall being awakened by it. We seem to get used to the sounds that regularly surround us--like the dorm at college with the train tracks right next to it. After the first week or so, it wasn't as annoying and I think it might have only taken 2 weeks to get used to the night trains.
I also never awoke when the foghorns were being used on the lakers that passed only 4 blocks from my childhood home. Now, however, if I visit my mother on a foggy night, they are HEARD CLEARLY!
With these experiences and travelling quite a bit, I have learned to use earplugs when sleeping where the noises are unfamiliar. I have surprised myself at the improved sleep those little things have enabled me to achieve.
That said, chicken is my favorite protein-aceous foods. Even if you wouldn't get that rooster, it is quite healthy and satisfying to think of creative solutions, isn't it?
Best wishes,
Karen

Soup Noodles
To make home made egg noodles to go with your new found "friend":
1 egg
1/2 an egg shell of milk
gradually add flour till it gets thick enough to roll
maybe a small amount of salt
dust countertop with flour then roll out dough
cut lengths or chunks with a pizza cutter
let them sit out to dry for a few hours
add to boiling broth and boil for a few minutes
yummy!
