RESMED gone wild - u need prescription to buy RESMED's mask

Post by cpapernewbie » Fri Aug 17, 2007 11:28 pm

Recently I read this notice from e-Bay that they yank out CPAP mask sale due to info from a CPAP manufacturer that CPAP mask need prescription

So e-Bay is not allowing any mask from being sold on their website

However I do not think this is the law, this is just RESMED trying to control the market

Read this statement in CPAP-supply.com:

Do I need a prescription for this equipment?
A prescription is required for all CPAP machines, as well as for ResMed masks, ResMed cushions, ResMed headgear and ResMed humidifiers. Please note that ResMed is the only company which requires prescriptions for the sale of CPAP equipment other than CPAP machines.

I really cannot believe that mask, cushions, headgear etc need prescription. I can easily get the prescrition but I ma really mad at RESMED for its attitude and to e_bay for just following one company. One company's rule is not the law!

Where is this "notice" you read?

eBay has a whole bunch of masks for sale on line right now, and CPAP masks are not shown on any prohibited items list I can find on US eBay.......

Yeah, I really wouldn't trust eBay to make an announcement about ResMed's policies...

" We have recently been advised by a leading CPAP manufacturer that CPAP
masks are prescription items. For this reason, eBay has recently amended
its policy to prohibit the sale of all CPAP masks on the site. Although
they were permitted on eBay in the past, they will no longer be allowed
on the site. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may
cause.

However, other CPAP accessories (such as tubes, humidifiers, etc.) can
be listed on the site without restrictions."

Thats Ebay, They will not allow the sale of anything that requires a script such as a CPAP machine. EBAY goes two steps beyond and also includes ANYTHING that connects to anything else requiring a script.

Thats only EBAY and nothing to do with Respirionics or any other manufacture or FDA.

I know first hand after speaking to EBAY because they removed my sales twice and I spoke to them about it.

Why don't you try cpap.com ?

I just bought Activa & Swift II from them few weeks ago, no prescription necessary.

I tried 2 times to auction a UMFF and both times it was pulled. To my knowledge you are suppose to be able to sell masks because those DON'T require a prescription!

Just checked.....all resmed ads have a messege saying ad has been pulled after you click on it. This is insane. I guess only the rich and well insured deserve proper medical care.

Just imagine... when they start targeting nasal flushes, non-standard pillows and matteresses, four-blade razors, and extra-strength deodorant.

It seems that the harder we try to get or keep ourselves healthy, the more potholes and speed-bumps we find on our road to success. Not counting the tainted and defective products, and crooks and robbers along the route.

Nodzy

you are right

Now this start to include almost all: Humidifiers, chinstraps, cushions and all masks parts

I will be bankrupt soon- - so far I managed to buy from second hand sources and donation from fellow sufferers.

Without insurance, what can we do?

This is a real shame. Some of the masks on ebay would sell for 1/4 to 1/2 of what the were even on CPAP.com. Often would let you try several different kinds without spending a fortune. I did not use it for regular usage but for a different one I wanted to try it worked out. ResMed unfortunally opens the door and others seem to jump on the bandwagon. Last week there were 12 pages of listings when you did a CPAP search today ther are 6 I think. With this situation maybe one of the other site will take over and help us out.

Hold up here... A company can't just decide that an item that they sell requires a prescription, CAN THEY? Does anyone know how this works?
I'm already writing a complaint to resmed. I doubt it will do much but this really has me mad. I've also sent a complaint to ebay.

I may take this to one of our local consumer advocates. This will be a new one for her.

HumanBean

thanks for writing to e-Bay

I think the way eBay do after getting ResMed's info is to apply on all brand: Respironics, FP and in the end we the consumers lost out.

eBay is trying to play safe by banning all with CPAP word in it and all brands not only RESMED

Will one of you crazy geeks start a cpap auction site, please?

Cheers,
