Card reader error 800402OD, unable to communicate with card

Post by ProfessorEd » Sat Aug 11, 2007 7:52 pm

I am getting the error "There was an error communicating with the Smart Card. Check your connections and try the operation again.

Error souirce respironics PCSCReaders DT3500Reader1.
rror number 800402D"

Any guess what the problem is? I have previously been able to read my card.

If I push the card in, the red light does turn to green after a little blinking.

I suspect a bad reader because I notice that wriggling the USB conector or trying to remove it will cause my computer to immediately stop and need a restart. This somehow suggests a short in the reader or elsewhere.

the same port seems to work for other purposes, so I suspect it is not my computer. I am tempted to just order another reader and hope it is better.

Any advice.?

Nothing wrong with your reader.
Do a forum search on that number.

Alas, a search on 800402OD turns up nothing.

If there is nothing wrong with my reader, what should I do?

You've got a O (Oh) instead of a 0 (zero) in front of the D in your error code.
There's also a version of that error with an F, too.
Basically, it MAY be the USB port you have it plugged into. Another problem has been the gold area on the card has gotten dirty and needs to be cleaned with a little rubbing alcohol.

Try this link.

Look at Phill's software on http://www.mycpap.org It might read the data and refresh the card............ Fixed my card {don't remember the error ####}
It's worth a try and good donation software to have around!

Forgive me for not understanding all this technical stuff and I have no idea of what that error code is but ....

If you are plugging your reader into an "extension" rather than into the back of your 'puter that may be your problem.

Both my Resmed and my Respironics reader cable instructions say to plug directly into 'puter rather than use an "extension".

My Resmed reader works just fine w/the "extension". My Respironics reader will NOT work on the "extension" at all, I "have" to plug it into the back of my 'puter (which is a real PITA).

Two or three times over the course of the last 8-9 months I've gotten a similar error message w/my Resmed. Twice all it took was to unplug the reader from the "extension" and then plug it back into the "extension". Once I had to wipe the gold part of the card off w/soft rag and water. Ooops. I lied. It happened 4 times. The other time I just had to pull the card out of the reader and put it back in to the reader.
