Some questions about ResMed S8-Vantage summary data (LCD)

Post by Warbird » Fri Aug 03, 2007 12:02 pm

I all, I have been Lurking and learning since I was told I was going for my sleep study.

I have learned a lot from you all (I'm from Texas) but I have a few questions.

My sleep study said that I had a AHI of 30.5 and was issued the Vantage with a pressure of 5-13. I have upped the 5 to 6 and the 13 to 14.

Every morning I record my Max Pressure, Leak Rate, AHI, AI and HI.
For instance, last night my stats were:
Max Pressure 11.2, Leak Rate 0.42, AHI 0, AI 0, Hi 0.

Does this mean I did not have any events last night or I did have some but the Vantage stopped them?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks to all.
Warbird.

It means the machine prevented them. The pressurized air held your throat open well enough that no events were able to happen. Congrats!

Welcome bird!

I have noticed a lot of new members from Texas joining the forum ... wonder what that is all about?

Anyaway, as RG stated ... congrats! You did very good ... zero AHI so quick.

You may not have needed to raise your pressure from 13 to 14 ... it may lead to aerophagia (bloated stomach). If this begins to happen, tweak down that upper pressure until you start getting AHIs again and then find a happy medium between the two. But until then you are doing just fine.

Best wishes!

Thanks for the quick response Rested Gal and DreamStalker!

Soooo, I guess that you are saying that if my AHI was 4 and my Ai was 1 and HI was 3 that those are the ones that the Vantage COULD NOT stop?

Dream, I think I will not re-adjust the Vantage as long as my numbers look so good. One more thing, my power went out for a few hours last night, might that have contributed to my low numbers?

My numbers usually look like this:
Date Press Leak AHI AI HI
7/12/207 8.2 0.02 14.3 3.5 10.7
7/13/2007 13.2 0.22 6.3 1 5.3
7/14/2007 12.4 0.48 2.1 0 2.1
7/15/2007 11.6 0.36 5.2 0 5.2
7/16/2007 12.6 0.36 4.8 0.02 4.6
7/17/2007 12.4 0.44 7.7 0 7.7
7/18/2007 7.4 0 5.9 1.3 4.6
7/19/2007 12.6 0.036 5.2 0 4.6
7/20/2007 10.40 0.22 5.3 0 5.3
7/21/2007 9.4 0.56 2.8 0.03 2.5
7/22/2007 10.4 0.046 2.1 0.08 1.14
7/23/2007 10.2 0.5 1.3 0 1.3
7/24/2007
7/25/2007
7/26/2007
7/27/2007 10.4 0.42 0.0 0 0
7/29/2007 12.8 0.44 0/6 0.8 0.6
7/30/2007 11.6 0.68 2.0 0.1 1.9
7/31/2007 11.6 0.5 1.1 0.01 1
8/1/2007 11.2 0.42 1.7 2 1.5

So I guess the Vantage is doing what it it supposed to.
These numbers look ok for a new member?

Warbird.

Leaks

Post by GoofyUT » Fri Aug 03, 2007 6:05 pm

Do be cautious of your leak rates. On ResMeds, leak rates above 0.40L/s are sufficient to compromise the integrity of the algorithm. You need to stay BELOW 0.40L/s.

Right. What you described means 1 apnea and 3 hypopneas sneaked through before the machine could prevent them or despite its attempts to prevent them. Which is still very good. Any AHI below 5 means the treatment is going well.

As GoofyUT pointed out, watch the leak rate and if you see an average leak over 0.4 l/s (liters per second) very often or several sessions in a row, try to fix that.
