Resmed S8 started "whirring"

Post by Skodobah » Tue Jul 24, 2007 2:32 pm

Hi everyone,

My Resmed S8 started "whirring" with every exhalation a few weeks ago, insighting a battle between me and my husband over noise. The machine had previously been good for the last 1.5 years, and now it does this! Does it sound like the blower is broken? My DME won't talk to me until my insurance switches in August. I'm about ready to throw it out the window.

P.S. Does anyone with a Respironics M series find that their machines "whir" as well upon exhalation? I had a regular M series twice and it did that, and I am afraid of switching to another version of an M series machine.

Doesn't it have a 2 year warranty?

It's supposed to have a two year warrenty, I'd be beating feet back to my DME, before the warrenty gave up. Find your paperwork. Jim

As others have stated....you do have a 2 year warranty on that equipment. Your DME is the one who sold it to you.....so they are responsible for warranty issues regardless of your insurance situation. You need to get down there and let them know that it is a warranty issue and you expect to have the equipment fixed/replaced.

What the others said. Your DME is trying to worm outta replacing the machine by running out the warranty period!!! Don't let them get away with it!

If push comes to shove and you get no where w/your DME, call Respironics directly, let them know your DME supplier won't honor the warranty. And let the DME "know" you've advised Respironics that they aren't honoring the warranty. Also notify your sleep lab/doctor that this DME supplier isn't honoring the warranty. And let the DME supplier "know" you've told the sleep lab/doctor they aren't honoring the warranty.

Don't make a scene but speak loudly and clearly enough that any other "customers" in the DME supplier's office at the time is aware that they won't honor the warranty.

I'm just wondering, if the DME won't help Julie, since it's a warranty issue, couldn't she try contacting the manufacturer directly?

Hi all -

Thank you for your help. I am currently renting the machine and do not own it, so there is a plus. It's just swapping it for one that works (the one I have also has the recall notice on it) that is a nightmare. I should just buy one from cpap.com.

Whoa!! Your machine is subject to the Recall??? You've checked the serial number and know that for sure??

To heck w/your DME supplier. Contact the Recall phone number and have it replaced thru the recall center.

Also, don't be lulled into a false sense of security because it is a "rental". Do you for sure that it is NOT a capped rental?? Most insurance CPAP rentals are "capped rentals", rented for so many months and then it becomes yours free and clear, you own it. The insurance pays no more.

You would be wise to call your insurance company to find out just exactly what your CPAP DME benefits are exactly. And make it a point of letting them know how uncooperative this DME has been and is being. Tell them it looks like you are going to be stuck w/a defective machine past the warranty period. And that the DME won't replace it even when it is subject to Recall.

Like Ann Landers said: People can't use you for a door mat unless you let them.
