OK, since I was sent Pur-Sleep as part of this trial, I will post my "struggle" and results here.

I started cPAP (again, after an 8 year break) in March '07. I wasn't excited about this but I had to do something. In starting, I required a prescription sleep aid (Lunesta) to help me fall and stay asleep. I suffer from anxiety (perhaps aggravated by adrenaline and hypoxia???) and Tourettes and have recently eliminated the very modest amount of caffeine that was a daily ritual. All in the effort to improve sleep. And hopefully improve my symptoms of anxiety.

Getting over the caffeine withdrawals, I thought the next logical step to improve the quality of my sleep would be to eliminate the Lunesta. This proved tougher than quitting caffeine. I was struggling quite a bit to fall asleep "naturally" with a mask and hose stuck to my face. Although I was completely cPAP compliant, it was very awkward and uncomfortable without the artificially induced drowsiness. And I've been staying awake quite a while when 1st laying down.

So, I was happy to see this trial. I was interested in the idea of "cognitive distraction" and was curious if this could help. I received my Pur-Sleep starter pack and I like the looks of it, but I was skeptical about how effective it might be.

I love peppermint... So my 1st night's choice was "Clear". Whoa... Working the bottle is a quite tricky. I ended up with 5-6 drops. And man, that is strong stuff. It was so strong in the cPAP that I was overwhelmed and had to pull the diffuser farther away. 1st, night.. Not so good due to this.

2nd night, I thought I'd try the Peace. I'd heard the Peace and Clear combo is nice, so rather than use a clean pad, I just dropped 2 drops of Peace on the same pad I used for Clear. And two drops I did! I wasn't thrilled with this fragrance. It's nice but my opinion is that Peace and Clear are rather bright fragrances. Although they are pleasant, they seem somewhat invigorating to me.

3rd night, I tried what I thought would be my least favorite: Spice. Again, managed to keep it to two drops. I might be getting the hang of this... Spice is a warmer fragrance. To my mind, this is something more soothing for bed time. Although this wouldn't normally be my 1st choice in fragrance I did find that I fell asleep quickly and stayed asleep. A-ha! Maybe there's something to this. It's interesting that the one fragrance, Spice, although while pleasant, was not my favorite and yet seemed to be most effective.

At 1st glance, I didn't think this system would work very well. Boy was I wrong. Even with two drops, the aroma is quite prevalent. I think I would be happy with just one drop. I'm going to try that tonight with Clear. Give it another shot since my 1st night with Clear was a bit of a bust. And like all things cPAP I'm also finding you need to take time growing accustomed to using EOs and give it a fair chance.

All in all I'm pleased with Pur-Sleep and see some potential benefit. So much so I just placed and order for a few of the other fragrances that I think would work well. I do believe it has helped take my mind off the cPAP equipment and onto something a little more pleasant, ultimately improving the experience of my therapy. Between Pur-Sleep, SnuggleHose and Pad-A-Cheek, I think I'm all set!

Thanks for the detailed feedback wog!

It's hard to believe until you experience it for yourself, but those little EO drops are powerful things. A tiny amount goes a long way.

The amount used makes a big difference. One drop of lavender may have different effects than two or three. When it comes to sleep, less is definitely more with EOs.

When using Clear I would definitely recommend using at least a little Peace. The new formulation for Clear includes lavender but it will take a bit to work through old inventory. You'll know from the label.

So keep at it and you're bound to find a combination that works well for you. Cognitive distraction is a beautiful thing when it comes to getting some sleep with a cpap!

And by the way, for those who have tried to join the trial, it's now closed. Wog just posted results here (there's another pur-sleep thread as well where most people are posting results).

Try the Scented CPAP Mask with Pur-Sleep's CPAP Aromatherapy--CPAP Diffuser and Essential Oils.

I know you have talked about the bulb & pippet eyedropper -BUT- have you looked at the dropper/ applier used in Liquid Corn/Callus Remover............ its a glass or plastic rod with a small bulg on the end.
It limits the amount to a drop or less.
I still like the "First" pur-sleep for my setup and I use the applicator from dr schoolls produce to measure the oils.....

Once again, thanks, Sleep Guy!!

Got mine last week. Thanks!
There is a possibility that I am allergic to it. Tried it for 3 nights and had problems with mouth breathing. Stopped for one night (last night) and no mouth breathing/
I liked it and will try alternating a few more nights before making a decision.
I just want to go back to sleep!

I got mine on Friday, and it was well packaged. I was house sitting over the weekend, and didn't want to stink up the guest room:)

Got home last night, and then had major drama with my sister about incence, so I didn't try it. The drama unfortunately resolved with me & my fiance being homeless as of 9/1, so we are no scrambling for a new apartment.

I'm going to try tonight. I think "Peace" first, as I need some.
