E-Bay information

Post by 6PtStar » Sun Jul 22, 2007 10:08 am

Looking for a new mask my DME won't order. Seeing comments about buying on E-Bay thought I would look. Almost half of the masks I looked at were bid on by a buyer "cpaponline" with 1700+ sales. What is this guy doing trying to buy everything he can at min bid and reposting with a higher starting bid. Trying to figure what is going on. Is it worth trying to bid against him?

I guess I have a problem with buying on E-Bay because I had a dispute with Pay-Pal around 5 years ago when I used to buy some stuff on E-Bay and have newer updated my account. Noticed most won't let you send money any more. I will have to look into seeing if Pay-Pal will take me back. My name and password still works on E-Bay. Anyone know what you have to do to get back into Pay-Pal's good graces?

I was wondering this myself - Look at bidding history - bought lots - no sense IMHO in bidding against this person. Must have more $ than I do!

If he is buying them from other ebayers and selling them for more, it's the not-so-smart crowd who is buying them.

That's the one thing about ebay, you can buy and sell within it too.

Well, it is worth trying to bid against him. All depends on a particular mask. I am saying so because I overbid him once when I bought one mask. Two times somebody overbid him when I sold two masks. It is of course difficult to find a bargain for a popular mask when this guy is around. He is a professional reseller, it is his niche.

Giggle. I also withdrew from PayPal about the same time you did, 6PtStar. When some of their info got hacked into is when I cancelled my credit card, got a new one, and have never gone back to PayPal since. I know it is frustrating to want to bid on something from a buyer who will only accept PayPal but so far I've managed to find most of what I want available via bank or USPS money order if I call or e-mail the seller about it. If not ... well, I saved myself some money by not buying the item. I refuse to give my credit card number online, if "they" won't take the number over the phone or a bank or USPS money order I don't buy from them.

Hey, you might as well bid up to the amount you are willing to pay. If you get it, GREAT! If you don't at least you made sure that the professional e-Bayer had to pay more than you were willing to pay.

As far as PayPal: what the heck, do you have a different credit card than you did back then? You most likely won't have any problem re-signing w/them. They can't do any more than say no. Go for it.

I think your best bet is to re-register on ebay under a different email address and different user name.

Right now I would say beware of this cpaponline guy. Also beware of sellers who have not been on ebay long and have little feedback.

When I sell on ebay I list it as accepting Paypal only. Not because I won't accept a money order if the buyer writes to me and asks, but just because I've been burned before by people promising to send payments that never come.

If you list it as Paypal only and they don't pay you within 48 - 72 hours you can immediately relist the item and file a non-paying bidder complaint against the buyer.

Simple phone call will reactivate your account. You will have to update your profile.

I am not a large buyer/seller but have never had a problem. I estimate I have bought and sold $25000 on EBay and Paypal over last 5 years. It works for me.

Here's what I do to limit my risk further with PayPal:
I link to a checking account I keep open only for such purposes. It has something like a minimum $10 in it most of the time, just to keep it open. When I win something on Ebay, I simply deposit the amount of the item plus postage, and pay when it's posted to the bank. This is for small transactions, mind you. As debit cards haven't got the same cardholder protections in place that many credit cards do. Also, with this impressed account, if you have to dispute a transaction, you aren't locking down your main checking account that you use for household expenses.

girlsaylor,

Good thinking.

That certainly stops anyone from stealing from your account.
