Longer Hosing?

Post by crd » Sat Jul 21, 2007 11:52 pm

Has anyone tried a 6' or 8' hose, or 2-6' together? My 6' bothers me (tugs on mask, catches on sheets, pulls on cpap, etc.). My understanding from cpap.com is that I don't need to change anything if I don't go over 12'. Am I correct in that? Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,
crd

I use a 6 ft. hose at home. In my RV I use a 10 ft. hose.
I also have a coupler so I could put 2 hoses together. I would not try to go over 10 ft. And I would say that you can get one from Cpap.com for sure. And I would take what they are telling you about the hose as gospel.
Good Luck

I use a 10 foot hose. According to Resmed, if that is the manufacturer of your machine, you can go up to 12 foot.

Just a note, if you are using a 'brick & mortar' DME, anything longer than 6 foot is a specialty item. I have bought the 10 foot hose from our host, I like it fine.

If you can't wait, you might try repositioning the hose you have. Or using a rubber band and safety pin to secure the hose to the mattress or pillow.

Caution! I brake for Elves, Fairies, Gnomes, Leprechauns, Unicorns, Dragons & and other invisible creatures only I can see!

I use a 6' hose. I used to have all the same problems you describe until I routed the hose over my head. It lets you toss and turn without any tugging.

I got a 8 foot hose for Hannah because she flops around her bed so much.A very nice member sent us some hose clips and I use one to clip the hose to the bed sheets near the machine, that way when she flops around it does not pull on the machine.Sometimes it helps to clip the hose to your pillow or PJ's if you wear them. It works great for my little night time rugby player.

Longer hose is more weight to pull on the mask, and more distance to allow for cooling/rainout. I would vote for the velcro clip to relieve pulling at the mask, and a SHORTER 4 or 5 foot hose, with less wt and less opportunity for condensation.
