Is it illegal to get pills from Canada?
Is it illegal to get pills from Canada?
I got a prescription for Provigil (which I absolutely love, reviews to come after I have a few more days of information). My insurance will only pay 50%, which brings my total for 60 pills to $234. I see that in Canada these pills are only $1 apiece. Is it legal to purchase from there? I have heard people do it... but I don't want to make any mistakes I will regret.
Thanks in advance,
Dawn

My step mom got all her meds from Canada after she had breast cancer. She used a legit pharmacy and all her prescriptions were checked carefully before they were filled. Her doctor gave her a form to use to send her prescriptions to Canada. Ask your doc about it. That was 2 years ago and it wasn't illegal then. I doubt it is now, but your doctor should know.

There mustbe some legitimate companies that sell drugs on the internet, but I seriously doubt it.
Saw a news show a few weeks ago about companies in Asia that were making these things. There were some instances where people got into serious medical trouble because some of the pills didn't have any of the substance they were supposed to contain.
I have been told that there are drug stores right across the Canadian border and that there are special bus tours there from Buffalo and Niagra Falls monthly to take senior citizens for their meds.
I CERTAINLY WOULDN'T TRUST INTERNET PURCHASED MEDICATIONS!

I just want to go back to sleep!
This is what they told me concerning Altace Generic:
"Thank you for your inquiry regarding Generic Altace. A generic drug is a drug which is manufactured by a company that is not the innovator. Because of this, other manufacturers are allowed to produce and sell the exact medication at a lower more competitive price. The generic drug is the exact same medication as the original brand name drug, simply made by another company. Due to strict regulations on the generic drug industry, these drugs must provide the same therapeutic effect as the brand name drug. Our generic Altace is made by Aventis Sanofi, manufactured in a FDA approved facility in India. It is shipped from the UK."

The last thing I read in legit newscasts and newspapers is that the US border people will no longer confiscate prescription meds purchased in Canada. I don't know if that means it is illegal and they are making a policy of letting it go as long as you have a prescription or what. The fact that not too long ago they would take the pills kind of indicates that it used to be illegal if it not still is.
In my opinion, having lived near the border, and known canadians and their businesses, a legit brick and mortor pharmacy is just as likely in Canada to fill prescriptions with safe, accurate meds as a pharmacy in the US. In fact many of the drugs come from the US in the first place.
One never knows what one gets on the internet in this area. I would be very wary of purchasing stuff like this on the internet..

Hi, from one Canadian to the rest of you... meds from legit pharmacies in Canada are legal for you to order WITH A script (thousands do it every day, and yes, Manitoba is the largest centre of such trading, and yes, meds from here are not only at least as 'good' as yours, but usually better as our regulatory boards are stricter. Often we'll see meds come up for sale in the U.S. and ask our docs for some, but it often takes quite a while before they're allowed to be sold here (if ever) until they've been vetted by our gov't research labs. We don't sell any from China masquerading as legit drugs - those may well be sold all over the net along with multitudinous herbal and 'health' stuff from all over the world, but never from our legit pharms that sell to you strictly to help save you money. What you get is the exact same thing (generic or otherwise) that you would get there.
China counterfeit policy
Counterfeit drugs are a great big problem worldwide.
You can count on a great percentage from the online spam being pure junk
Pills are so easy to counterfeit and many are willing to buy them and sell them
China has taken a very hard stand on the problem, if the followinfg article is to be believed.

The Chinese chief drug man has been sentenced to EXECUTION.
Bet this woulod get some attention here.

The US drug companies do the research and are allowed to sell the drugs for 8 years with no competition in the USA, (No generics) to supposedly recoup their research efforts. A fine example is Coreg. Drs. prescribe Coreg in 2 tablets a day at 12.5 milligrams each. Why not one 25 mg tablet which is the same cost as the 2-12.5 tablets and you cut the pill in half? A 90 day supply would then become a 180 day supply. Since the Coreg can now go generic, Coreg now puts out a once a day capsule called Coreg CR. This is about 10 times the cost of the Coreg generic and about $110 for a 30 day supply or 30 pills. I know because I am taking it. Naturally since the drug companies wine and dine the doctors and supply them with samples they prescribe the more expensive drugs. Naturally I was prescribed Coreg CR. There is no Altace generic available in the USA now so I've went to Canada to get some. Still no Coreg CR there yet though. My insurance says as long as they are FDA approved it is ok since there is no generic available here.
