Anyone getting sinus infections at higher pressures?

Post by babydoss » Sat Jul 07, 2007 12:57 pm

My hubby has been on his new pressure of 19 and new machine (Auto CPAP w/ C-flex) for about a month now and within the first week he had a sinus infection SO bad that he had to get a Z-pack.

Things seemed to get better but within 3 days of finishing the Z-pack he was back where he started. Green gunky stuff (sorry, I know that's gross!)
and sinus pressure headaches. He got a stronger dose of antibiotics (10 days), uses Fluticasone Propionate nasal spray 50mcg (once in am) and is taking Mucinex.

Now the 10 days is over and he continues to use Mucinex and the nasal spray occasionally. He is hoping and praying that it doesn't come back.
We also adjusted the humidifier down from 2 to 1 thinking that he was getting TOO much humidity.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions?

Thanks again!
Lee

I had this EXACT problem when I first got my setup (my pressure is 17).

After two rounds of antibiotics, it went away and i continued to take an antihistamine until it dried up.

I found out that my problem was my humidifier, just like your husband.

I have mine set on 1 now and the problems have gone away. Any higher and my nose gets completely backup up and i get a sinus infection.

I had the same problem when they raised my pressure to 18. My humidifier was set at 2 & I had a huge amount of sinus problems, so I lowered it to 1. It didn't help a bit. (made for a lousy deer season) It wasn't until I went back to the Doc for my checkup that he told me that with the increase air flow it was actually drying out my sinus passages & it was a normal reaction of my body to produce more mucus in order to keep them moist. He told me to turn up the humidifier. I now have it set on 5 just 1 from max. & everything is fine. It sounds crazy until you start thinking about it.
Best of luck

what setting is your humidifier on? you may need to increase it. it won't hurt to try it anyway.

My humidifier is in the middle and I'm waking up stuffy with headaches.

Should I bump it down a notch?

My humidity in my room is 55%. I think I will. Nevah mind.

I think I will try it.

It's not like I don't live in Texas with 92% humidity.
