String elastic headgear?
String elastic headgear?
I remember reading a post within the last month or so where someone said they had made a new headgear for their mask out of string elastic. This idea keeps rolling around in my head as to how cool something like that would be rather than all the thick straps. But I can't find that previous post.
Has anyone done this or remember who it was that mentioned it? I'm really tired of extremely messy hair not to mention sweaty hair.

The HC 481 Infinity has 2 different headgears and the option is up to the patient. The smallest is, a single piece of elastic. Check with cpap.com or with your DME. I don't know what it looks like, but I'm going to my DME this Monday. I am going to get that headgear to try with my new mask.

All I can picture is that you want a g-string head gearlinda b wrote:I remember reading a post within the last month or so where someone said they had made a new headgear for their mask out of string elastic. This idea keeps rolling around in my head as to how cool something like that would be
Actually, if you have an old headgear for the same mask, you could experiment. You would want to get elastic that has enough recovery in it to hold the mask in place, which would probably mean the really narrow stuff JoAnn, WalMart, etc carry would not work very well. Do you sew at all? Even hand sewing? You would probably have to use 1/2" wide elastic to match up with mask clips & such. But if you could sew the elastic to tabs from the original headgear, you could try narrower. Personally, I would want one of the elastics that has a cottony feel- it would have better traction without being grabby in your hair. Another idea would be to try linking several good quality hair rubber bands together to make a long enough piece...now you've got me wanting to experiment with my own headgear-lol
I don't remember a "string" elastic post, but I do know that I've tweaked masks with just regular elastic I bought at Joann's Fabric Store, and that Gasp mentioned seeing my elastic tweaker.
Go to the fabric store and look at the elastics for sale and buy some, and start tweaking away!
Cheers,
B.

Linda,
Could you by any chance be misremembering what we called "the rubber band trick" for the erstwhile Aura, aka HeadRest / Twilight NP?
That solution just used rubber bands to pull the masks seal closer to your nose and does not replace the headgear at all.

And now here is my secret, a very simple secret; it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.

Now there is an idea ... replacing your mask headgear with a thong. It would look similar to the headgear for the Adams Circuitchristinequilts wrote:All I can picture is that you want a g-string head gearlinda b wrote:I remember reading a post within the last month or so where someone said they had made a new headgear for their mask out of string elastic. President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

But how do you explain the mask & the underwear on your head to the repair guy who shows up unexpectedly early? It would be pretty hard to get them to believe its for 'medical use'DreamStalker wrote:

And can you imagine trying to explain if you had to have another sleep study or share a hotel room with a coworker?
Not for anyone that watches cable TV!

Thanks for all your replies. I am a sewer and a quilter, so I have some knowledge of elastic. I was even awarded a Lab Rat Trophy for an elastic fix on the CL2 as a substitute for the panythose fix! I'm afraid it would be a very cold day in... well, you know where...before anyone would catch me in thong underwear!!!!!!! Trust me, it would not be a pretty sight!! And no, I don't think I'm mistaking the rubber band fix. My memory is of "string elastic" being used to make a headgear.
My problem with the CL2 is the bulky headgear. It sometimes feels hot and it makes a mess out of my hair every night. I really do like the simple cushion and I really don't mind the stiff elbow, but this big forehead/top-of-head thing has got to go. I just started another topic to see if anyone has deconstructed a CL2 like Rested Gal did on the Aura -- don't need to reinvent the horse if someone else has already done it, if you know what I mean!!

Okay, well.... Could it be this "universal" headgear?
http://www.cpapsupplyusa.com/full-face- ... -mask.aspx
This is what I got with the NAII:
http://www.cpapsupplyusa.com/Breathewea ... X2008.aspx
It comes with a bunch of little velcro one-wraps that you can adjust and attach to the headgear wherever you want them.
Nothing here looks like string elastic.
Good luck on your search! I know how frustrating it is when you get an idea in your head and you can't hunt down the stuff you need to finish it. I got a bug going about a soap dispenser for my cpap mask soap that had hot pink gerbera daisies on it to match the bathroom. Spent WAY TOO MUCH TIME online this weekend looking to make it a reality... sigh...
Cheers,
B.

Googled "string elastic cpap headgear" and got this:

"I like the smaller mask in comparison to the larger one I had, it does leak alot though. I took off the band that came with it because I tend to get hot with that band all over my head. I replaced the band with string elastic so I don't get as hot with it. These products are suppose to help you sleep, I've yet to have a full nights sleep with this stuff on my face. Guess I'll have to keep looking for the perfect mask. Until then I'll use this one, because as I said above, it is definately better than the larger one that covered my nose up to my eyes snd down to my top lip."
Cheers,
B.
