I may be bite in my butt for asking this but I do want to know. What to all of you users of CPAP's or hoseheads or whatever you may want to be called think of these 2 machines. The Respironics REMstar Plus M series and the ResMed S8 Elite? These are the two that we normally put out to our patients unless they or the Doctor..normally the doc...request another CPAP. I just started to work at this office in April of this year and these are the 2 they most normally use. I just wanted to get people who use CPAP's opinoins on these machines.
Just so you have a little background on me...this is my first go round in Home Health. I have been in Respiratory for 3 years but prior to this I worked in a hospital where my main focus was on ventilators, codes, trauma's, pediatrics, and your normal every day breathing txt. CPAP's, unless they were BIPAP's that were used as last step before a ventilator, where not my specialty.Home CPAP's I never dealt with before this. I am learning and would like "professional" users opinoins. Thanks
What do you think?
I'm a Respironics (Legacy models Pro 2 and Auto) user, but as far as the two you are asking about:
Obviously you know that the ResMed Elite is a data recording machine.....the REMstar Plus is not.
The REMstar M Series Pro should replace the Plus in your lineup of machines because it DOES record nightly details.
If a person AT LEAST has the option to monitor their therapy, that's a step in the right direction.
Now.....if we could just get everyone else in the industry to come forward and ask.......
Best wishes,
Den

I have no experience w/the RemStar Plus M Series or the prior "classic" RemStar Plus.
However, I DO have a Resmed S8 Elite and love it. It is an excellent CPAP, it has EPR which can help a lot of new to CPAP users adjust. Its a well built machine, the company has a good reputation for quality equipment, and most importantly it is fully data capable.
You as the DME RT have the ability to monitor a patient's response to therapy, not just compliance, and if necessary could make suggestions to doctor or patient based on the data the Elite can provide. More importantly IF the doctor is at all interested in his/her CPAP patient he/she has the necessary data available to monitor the patient's response to therapy and information to assist in making any adjustments that might be needed.
IF you do encounter a patient who is interested in their data and want to educate themself they will soon realize that there is data to be had by them w/access to the advanced/detailed patient menu and they can discuss w/their doctor his scripting access to that menu. If the patient isn't interested, so what, no harm done, no access to that menu granted, yet the data is still there to assist you and the doctor in monitoring the patient's therapy.
I say Kudos to your company for offering the Resmed S8 Elite as an introductory CPAP to new apnea patients!!! Good choice!

I agree Rested Gal and Wulfman.
I have a Remstar Plus, also a Remstar Pro 2 w/Cflex. And I am now using a Remstar M-Series Bipap Auto.
Of my three machines I would say that the M series is by far the best.
Althought the M series I have is a Bipap. And my other two machines are Cpap.
I think that they should do away with a straight Cpap and at least set people up with a machine that has C-Flex or A-Flex and they should all have the Auto feature.
Don't Bend or Squash, My Aluminum Hat,it keeps them from knowing what I am thinking!
