Feeling of Suffocation

I feel like I was being suffocated, because of the warm weather we have been having. I had this feeling three days last week and one this week.

The days have really been nice and very warm.

Has anyone else have this type of feeling? Is this a normal feeling?

i have felt like this when I had my heated humdifier turned up and it was warm in the room. If you are using a heated humidifier, try turning the temp down just a bit until it feels comfortable.

If you are still feeling like you are sufficating you should speak to your sleep doctor, your pressure may be too low, or too high. Both these situations are not effective treatment.

First Guest, are you feeling that way just when you are using cpap, or do you mean you feel like that when wide awake in the day and not using your machine?

Second Guest - You are a great big jerk

Had my first question here (only a few weeks ago) received such a lovely response I would have read it, turned off the computer, had a good cry, been angry with myself for finally reaching out for help and never come back! It is one thing to joke around or say something 'cute' then give some helpful advice or words of encouragement, it is quite another to treat another person this way. I AM FURIOUS ! I am sure that your parents would be proud to know that they raised such a caring individual.

PS: please keep the bag on your head, I'm sure it suits you.

I only feel like I am suffocating when I first put on my mask after a day of woring outside. My face feels like it is sunburned and I feel like I have over heated.

I am not to be in the sunlight due to my two auto-immune diseases and my meds.

The beginning pressure may be to low because I feel like there is enough air for me to breath in the beginning. I hope I am making sense.

Are you using a ramp? That used to give me the same feeling. I ended up not using a ramp altogether to get away from that feeling.

Nitro Dan you are not going to believe this, but that is how my CPAP S7 Lightweight is set up. I have to ramp it for 15 minutes before I reach my desired pressure.

you should be able to turn off the ramp. See the other post on this page about tha S-7 settings for how not to adjust your cpap. Hopefully that will help. Being short of air is not a fun sensation. Good luck!

I am writing down the instructions on what to do and I am changing the settings tonight.

I think it is terrible that we cannot change things because the DME's think we are not smart enough or they take valuable information away from us that could possibly save our lives.

What a sad day.

You shouldn't need special instructions to turn off the ramp on a S7. The patient manual should have that information in it. I had one for a while, and it is pretty easy, but I can't recall the details (danged OSA memory loss! ).

Good luck -- I used the ramp for the first few days, and then decided that I didn't like it (felt like I wasn't getting enough air) and turned it off.

I just recently set my ramp time to 0 minutes, because I also felt like I wasn't getting enough air. Here's what to do:

Turn the powere on; first it will display the ser. number, then it changes to the ramp menue. All you need to do is press the up/down button to adjust the ramp time from 0 to 30 minutes. Then put your mask on and press the button to start the air flowing.

Now, if someone could just tell me how "not" to turn the pressure up On Tues. the doctor said he wanted to increase the pressure. Put in several calls to the DME, and the RT still hasn't returned my calls. Grrrrrrr.....
