Update on new Encore Pro Analysis software...

Good people,
I have been somewhat invisible this past couple of weeks. My mother-in-law had a massive stroke at the age of 89, and my wife and I have been flying back and forth to Michigan. Unfortunately she will not survive, and so we are about to jump on a plane again, and will not return until it's all over.

Naturally this has put a hold on deploying the Excel based Encore Pro database software as I promised.

At the same time, because I have been sitting around in motels a lot, and wanting to take my mind off the situation, I undertook a more ambitious project - to write a stand-alone version of the software. This I have done under Visual Studio .NET, and I am very pleased with the results. It is complete except for an ability to print the charts.

It should be very easy to install (provided you have the .NET framework installed - which can be downloaded from Microsoft)

Here are a three sample screen-shots. The first is the opening page which allows you to select the plotting parameters:

The next two are samples of the fifteen or so data plots that can be displayed (the plots are selected by clicking on the tabs at the top of the page):

Of course deploymant will have to wait until I return.

Does this program process data that encore pro "pulls" from my CPAP or does it pull the data too?

Basically, after this is written (and unless you get sued for doing it), do I need to buy or use Encore Pro anymore?

It is my understanding that the only way to gain access to the data is to download it from the smartcard. Unless your DME will download your card data and send/give you the database files (ROFLH ) you will need the Encore Pro software and card reader to use Derek's routines. Personally, I am excited about gaining more control over the data!!

I noticed your invisibility lately - I'm sorry to read of the bad news.
Your graphs look great - just what a patient need in order to know how to set his own pressure.
I am porbably buying a GK420e tomorrow - but your graphs sure make me wish for the Encore Pro...

Derek, so sorry to hear the reason for your absence from the board. I hope the situation resolves as comfortably as possible for your wife's mother. Thanks for all the work you do!

My wish for you and your wife to spend her mother's last few hours together peacefully and then to take the time to celebrate and remember all that was wonderful about the time you've had with her.

Very sorry to hear of your mother-in laws condition. Having regard to the close bond that is common between mothers and daughters may I extend sympathy to you, your wife and your family in this difficult time.

I am very sorry to hear about your mother-in-law's stroke, Derek. We just went through the same crisis a few months ago. My 82 year-old mother-in-law suffered a stroke and her prognosis for survival was not at all encouraging. She did survive and recovered much of her lost motor-skill and cognitive functionality. It was a very stressful period for the entire family to say the least.

My very best wishes to you, your mother-in-law, and, of course, your wife during these trying times.

Derek,

First and foremost, I was in precisely your situation with my father just about 10 years ago now; nothing makes it easy but keeping all of my loved ones close if only to sit there and stare at helped me the most.

Regarding your software, you have succeeded in doing what I have been toying with doing. Clearly your coding skills and determination are stronger than mine. I am another user anxiously awaiting the ability to use what you have developed. Count me in when you get to a release point.

So sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. I lost my mother 13 years ago, it was the hardest thing that ever happened to me in my life.

Just want you to know that I am thinking about you and your wife during this sad time in your lives. May you comfort each other during these last moments and be there for your wife as she grieves the loss of her mom.

Its a hard loss.
