My Hair doesn't like the head gear

Post by SisterShotgun » Sun Jun 24, 2007 9:40 pm

I have semi-long hair and when I put on the head gear it smashes my hair against the back of my neck and I do not like that feeling at all..What makes it worse is that I am full-timing in my 5th wheel trailer and my A/C is on the fritz and it is not very cool at night so sweat is a factor..

I tried braiding my hair and sticking it up through the back strap, but it got loose in the middle of the night

Then there is the horrid chin strap that gets hot too...

I would like to find a way to make sleeping with the head gear easier..Thought about shaving my head, but my husband didn't like that idea

I just stick all my hair through my swift so the back strap is under the hair. I don' try to tie it back, so I can't see why it would be a problem if your braid got loose. I just grab it like a pony tail and pull it through and let go.

I also found regular chin straps hot, I use an ace bandage. Many of the chin straps I have seen are neoprene or something like that. The ace bandage will not get slimy. It will still however be a little warmer than nothing at all.

Your profile doesn't show what mask/headgear you are using so I can't tell if my suggestions would do you any good though.

No Go out to the Base and get military hair cut.
My hair is a little long I got used to it.
Seems to be better now that I got this new mask I'm using.

My hair is down past my waist. I either throw it up in a bun on the top of my head or I put it in a ponytail or braid at the base of my neck. I would hold off on the buzz cut. lol

Maybe you could modify your headgear

Post by kteague » Mon Jun 25, 2007 1:55 am

Not sure which headgear you are using, but many on here have modified theirs or removed it totally and just used their own strapping instead. I've played around some, but I envy those I've seen on here who went all the way with it and have left nothing much but the tubing and nosepiece. Doesn't work with all styles of masks though.

I fought with my hair in the beginning and got so aggravated I did cut it off (less than 2 inches). That was before I would have considered decapitating a mask.

Hope you figure out soon what will work for you so that this irritation doesn't interfere with being able to feel comfortable in your nitegear.

Kathy

Hi Teddi. Not to much to offer, except I can testify that shaving the head solves the problem. Hehehehe.

Not for me

My quattro headgear does not fit well without hair.

LOL

Okay here is what I did last night..I braided my hair, took a shower then put the mask on first instead of the chin strap, then the chin strap went on last, set my ramp for 30 minutes and 7 hours later I woke up

I will wait on the Navy cut until next summer when both my husband and I will donate our hair to Locks of Love when we both have over 10 inches of pony tail to cut off..My husband is retired Navy and people look at him weird because his hair is longer than mine...When we go to the Commissary we get some interesting looks

The mask I have is the FlexiFit 407

I put my hair in a ponytail and it goes up and over the end of the bed (no headboard) with the hose. Luckily, my headgear has an opening that my ponytail can go through without the weight of it pulling on the headgear.
