Nitrous Oxide and OSA

Ok, I found out that I'm going to be needing possibly a root canal... they'd like to use nitros oxide to help me deal with it as I hate dentists and having people opening my mouth.

What's the impacts to using this with my OSA... anything that I should watch for (or have them watch for)? Or should I just blow off the gas completely?

See I've got TMJ as well... which doesn't help with the dentist thing.

Ummmmm.......
I'd better pass the gas remark that came to my mind.

I really doubt that it'll affect your therapy. Who knows.....it might produce a "good" night, as far as stats go.

From a personal experience, about a year or so before I started CPAP therapy, I had a root canal on regular novocain and almost went to sleep in the dental chair while they were working on me.

I think you'll be fine.

I had a root canal done since being on xpap. I took the nitrous because I'm scared to death of the dentist. They have to give me 'sweet air' just to get me to open my mouth. No problems that I could see or that showed on my data for that night.

I had a cleaning three days ago. Everything was ok except that I am grinding and just got a mouth guard and aero-swallowing-air-and-burbing-all-the-next-dayia is killing my lovelife. I appear to have a tooth that is loose and trying to be a good person, I did not go in as I usually do with a couple belts of Tangery and several valiums. Yes. 8am, I will not go quietly...

When I got hit with a COLD water spray, I made Chris Angel jealous with my levitation. I over did the "self therapy" that night, I actually did not do bad on my numbers.

I would mention it to the dentist, but I would not loose sleep over it... NO PUN INTENDED

I didn't realize that my tooth grinding was connected with sleep apnea until very recently. I have been looking into it

and the good news seems to be that CPAP cures tooth grinding.

depends on what caused the grinding in the first place and what damage you've already done.

I have asked for nitrous for any tooth procedure that was either painful or over an hour long. I love it because, it makes me relax and stop kicking that little metal table with fancy instruments on it and they flush it completely out of your system afterward with oxygen. I've only been on cpap for a month but I can't see that it would do anything except make your dental visit less unpleasant!

For any procedure I get nitrous, including routine cleaning. Bad, Bad experience with a dentist years ago prohibits me from walking into a dentist office without freaking out. When I expressed my concerns about my OSA to my current and "forever dentist" he said not to worry, he VERY familiar with it, his wife is a hosehead.

I often wonder if he somehow hooked up nitrous to her hose in the begining .... just kidding but what a concept!
