Need mask opinions!

Post by cmichels » Wed Jun 06, 2007 9:55 am

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in 98. I stopped using my cpap about two years ago because I did not feel any better in the morning or day. My Dr. has set me up with an apap that I am going to pick up tomorrow. I have been out of the game for awhile and not sure what the best new masks are. My last mask was a resmed swift.

I know everyone is different and one persons favorite mask is anothers most hated. But any opinions on what you are using and like helps. I will only do a nasal pillow type mask.

I am currently contemplating the following masks.
1. Comfort Curve
2. Comfort Lite 2
3. Infinity 481
4. Respironics Optilife
5. Opus

Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks for your help.

I didn't vote cuz you left out the Breeze, the best nasal pillow interface of all (well for me anyway)

Others may not vote for their similar reson regarding the Aura.

If your current favorite mask isn't in the poll or the ones I am considering please still leave feedback. There may be a mask I am not aware of.

I have used a breeze in the past, but like the swift better. I did some research on the aura, but not sure if my provider carries it. If it is indeed the best I can certainly get it somewhere else. I am also looking at the Polaris Twilight which looks similiar to the Aura and the Respcare Bravo.

I was one of the people that thought the Comfort Curve would be great and after trying it for one day I turned around and sold it. I felt like that was a horrible mask, way to much leakage and hard to handle.

If you liked the Swift, try the NasalAire II or the Bravo. I think you'll like them even better. Way more ability to customize the tube management. I hate the way the Swift's tube goes up one side and THAT'S it! You have to sleep on that tube if you want to sleep on that side.

I'm having excellent results with my NAII - best sleep in 7 weeks (and obviously before then, as well):

Bravo is made by the same company, and is VERY SIMILAR to the NAII, but designed for pillows lovers who don't like the prongs up the nose like the NAII:

You can switch the prongs from the NAII to the Bravo, and the pillows from the Bravo to the NAII. They interchange perfectly.

Good luck!
Barbara

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

With the ComfortLite 2 you have the opportunity to try both the nasal pillows and the shallower nasal seals. There's the ability to adjust the angle from forehead to bridge of nose and the ability to adjust the length from bridge of nose to bottom of nose, plus the ability to widen or narrow the space between the pillows to fit your nostril width. Did I mention you can also adjust the angle of the pillows or seals? Plus the seals and pillows come in the kit in TWO different sizes, S & M or M & L.

I never tried the nasal seals as the "kit" I was given contained the nasal pillows and simple nasal cushions (yes, two sizes of simple nasal cushion as well). After some experimenting I found I liked the simple nasal cushion even better than the seals. It really is a SIMPLE nasal cushion too. Unlike the larger nasal cushion masks.

I have a small face (butt is a differnt story) Do far the only one I have had success with is the F&P 406A Petite Nasal Mask....

I did not like:
Swift-not for small face or multiple side sleepers
Comfortlite-wouldn't stay on
FF 431-just not in to FF masks
Breeze YUCK!- tugged my nose upwards (Piggy Nose)
Comfor Classic Nasal-uncomfortable no padding around the nose

Waiting to try Bravo, Nasal AIre and the Twilight!

Debbie

I tried 3 different masks before finding my good friend, the CL2. My AHI immediately dropped and has been consistantly low since. I finally settled on the large size nasel mask. My leaks dropped significantly and so did my events. Love the CL2. It may not be for everyone, but it's certainly worth a try.

on the list, Opti, but I have been using the Swift II now since late April and really like it, esp in these warmer nights there is no chin strap.

I have to agree with Slinky that of the ones on your list, the CL2 is probably the best choice for a 1st or 2nd mask because it gives you so many options. I really believe you do better by rotating two or more masks (2-3 days at a time usually works well for me) and I have had good success with both the direct seal and nasal pillow interfaces with the Comfortlite 2.

That being said, I would also consider the Optilife and the Swift 2. The Optilife is more secure to movement than either the Swift or the CL2 and has the most hose management options (but these only work with the Respironics high performance hose - which I highly recommend!)

I think it would help us if you noted anything that you DIDN'T like about the Swift. If you REALLY like the Swift, why not just go for the Swift 2?
