Exhaling against Mirage Swift II

Post by Sleepdeprived » Mon Jun 04, 2007 3:48 pm

Is it true that the Mirage Swift II may be difficult to exhale against.

Are there nassal pillows that are considered easy to exhale against

Or does aflex, cflex, epr etc take care of that

I've also read that the Swift II is hard to exhale against the pressure and causes mouth leaking. It is because the exhaust rate or CO2 wash out rate is less than other pillow masks. Would it affect the quality of sleep, cause headaches?

Hi I have been using the Swift II for about a week. At first it seemed a little harder to exhale so I set the EPR, on my ResMed Elite, to 1 (full time) and that has made things a lot better.

Before: AHI 71.3, SaO2 min 76%
CPAP: 8.0 cm-H2O
Current: AHI < 1.0

I bought the new Swift II because I wanted a cute new mask and I found it very difficult to exhale against. The Swift One is cheaper and is easier to breath with. Better yet, I am totally impressed with that new Bravo from Teleflex. Not only that, but Babbett gave me the idea to attach my NasalAire II to it last night ((it worked great) and now I have a greater selection.
Another nasal mask I liked is the Aura (with Rested Girl's fix). I have always said since trying it that the Aura needs to come with a pantyhose headstrap. The Bravo is very inexpensive and comes with 3 sets of pillows and great sporty headgear like the swift, but more comfy. Very easy to breath against and quiet. My Breeze is a very quiet mask, too, by the way.
