Silverlining Software

Post by jabberwock » Tue May 29, 2007 5:55 pm

Please be kind and keep in mind that I am pretty much computer-illiterate

I will be receiving a slightly used Goodknight 420E in a few days, and will be purchasing the Silverlining software from our host.

I am doing this so that I can take an active role in my therapy as so many of you have been able to do quite successfully.

The problem is that I have no idea what I am doing My computer (not a laptop) is on a completely different floor from my bedroom. Does that mean I am going to have to unplug the apap and bring it down to my computer when I want to read the data available on it?

If so, is this something I should do every day, or should I accumulate a few days' worth of date and download it all at once?

Oh, and as a forewarning, I will be counting on my new forum friends here to help me to read and analyze the date once I have it all set up

Bonnie

Hi Bonnie,

I have had my 420E for a little over 2 weeks, and I really like it. If I were you, I would measure the distance (piece of string?) between your CPAP station and your computer’s serial port (usually around the back of the tower). They sell telephone (6 conductor, I think) extension cords with a male/female adaptor that you might be able to use if the distance isn’t too far. (they sell 25, 50, and even 75 feet.) What I do every morning is to string the telephone cable from the 420E (I leave it plugged into the 420E all the time) to the little serial cable that comes with Silverlining (which is plugged all the time into the serial port of the computer). That way I only have to mate the two cables near the computer.

If this isn’t going to work, you will probably have to transport your apap to the computer. Again, if it were me, I’d do it daily until your therapy is consistent, and then I’m sure it will be fine to do it once a week. It stores 200 sessions, I think. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Good luck with your new GoodKnight!
Cathy

I would also suggest an extension cord. Getting the APAP to the PC is not so nice (unplug, be careful with the water left in the humidifier ) and you might get bored. I only did it for a few days, until I drilled the wall between the b-room and the room the PC was located.
Take care about the extension cord. Male-Female cable should be OK but Male-male wires are inverted.

Thanks for your responses. I will measure and see if I can find what I need in a long enough length once I receive the machine.

Let us know if you need help, I'm just learning the ins and outs of the SL software myself but I think I've figured out how to see the important things, so feel free to PM me or of course you can always post.
