Has This Ever Happened?

Post by Lee Lee » Tue May 22, 2007 8:34 am

At 3:00AM, I woke up with a sensation of not being able to get a good breath, and I could feel my pulse was racing and pounding.
I removed my mask and after a few minutes, felt better. I was afraid to put my mask on again.
I've been on APAP for 18 months and have never had this happen.
I will say the only thing different was that one nostril was extremely stuffed up, other than that, everything was the same.

Sounds like a possible apnea event to me.
Do you check your stats? (either through the LCD screen or with software)

I sometimes wake up and cannot breath through my nose due to allergies and even though I use a full face mask have to remove it to be able to breath comfortably. It is like a feeling of stuffiness.

Lee Lee,

I have had the very same thing happen a couple of times in the past couple of weeks, and it happens on nights where, like you said, one nostril is completely blocked.

Over the 2 months I've been doing this, I've come to find that my best sleep comes with my Swift and taping, but...this is not a good combo if I'm not clear in the nasal passage area. Then, I will switch to the hybrid, but then I deal more leak problems and a drooling factor, which is not fun.

Den,
I checked my stats this morning, and I did have 1 apnea event. Maybe this was just a "granddaddy" event.

I don't know much at all on this topic, but is it possible that your Auto machine detected the event and its handling of it (changing pressure) is what triggered your "shock and awe"?
Maybe with one nostril blocked, it thought the event was more prolonged or extreme and reacted more strongly than it normally would when you're not clogged??

Or maybe it just shook you out of a deep sleep, leaving you jarred and with pulse racing?

Totally just guessing...

Pluged up nostral

Post by bakerboy » Wed May 23, 2007 8:24 pm

My Dr. suggested that I flush my nostrils with saline nasal spray in the evening prior to bed and when I get up. I frequently got plugged up in one or both nostrils.

I really got great results, cleaned me out, and helped my allergy problems.

Cheap also, only $4 at Walgreens.

You might check with your Dr.
