What is resperonics cadillac?

Post by Quigley » Sat Mar 10, 2007 1:40 am

Hello everyone, I am new joiner here,
and very uninformed so far on all the different models
and terms, but I am trying to learn,
but if any one can help I need advice to a question by this Monday.

What would be considered the cadillac respironics machine?

After talking to my doctor, he decided to change my
Remstar Plus to another type, but he only said I was going
to get the "Cadillac" because it would automatically
adjust to the pressure I need through the night and only when I need it.

He did not say what model or type I was going to get but that
it is the most advanced and my insurance will pay for it.

I just want to have some knowledge from your advice to make sure
that on monday I am going to get the best I can get because I
know my insurance won't get me another one for many years
and I don't want to get something inferior.

I am almost certain it will be some type of respironics model.
I have been using a Remstar Plus with Cflex and pressure is set to 15.
I am guessing they will just plug in a different unit next to the humidifier,
or should I ask for a completely different unit?

I also did a search here for 'cadillac' and found
Respironics BiPAP Auto with BiFlex,
it this the best one?

I also was looking at the units at http://bipap.respironics.com
trying to figure out which one was the best
but I just don't have enough knowledge yet to be sure.

Thank you, all advice is appreciated.

My guess is that the doctor is talking about the Respironics REMstar Auto with C-flex. A very, very good machine. It's an autopap -- a type of machine also known as an auto-titrating cpap, auto-adjusting cpap, or self-adjusting cpap.

Be sure the name of the machine the home health care place gives you has one of these names written on the top surface of the machine:

Respironics REMstar Auto (and should have a sticker on top that says "C-Flex.)
or
Respironics REMstar Auto "M" series (has C-flex but probably will not have a sticker on top.)

The "M" series is the newer model, slightly smaller than the previous model.

The doctor might be planning to prescribe the Respironics BiPAP Auto with Bi-Flex, but I would bet more that he has the Respironics REMstar Auto with C-flex in mind. You're lucky either way.

If the doctor is switching you from the Plus to a cadillac, then I assume you have not done well in your therapy.

With a pressure of 15, he might want to try the Bi-level, and as RG said, the cadillac in bi-level is the Respironics BiPAP Auto with Bi-Flex.

However, if he is not going to raise your pressure above 15, and depending on what problems you had with the Plus, the Respironics REMstar Auto with C-flex would be the good choice.

Both are extremely good machines, you will be happy.

That is exactly what I needed to know for next week.

I don't really trust these home health care places much
which is why I asked for your advice.
Now at least I know now what models the guy should be bringing me.

I have various health and mainly serious lung problems to deal with.
I have not improved over the last 5 months using this cpap.
The doctor said I had to fail using this cpap before my insurance
would pay for a better one.

I will do some searching here and try to figure out the differences between
REMstar Auto with C-flex and the BiPAP Auto with Bi-Flex
and which one should be easier on my lungs.

I will post back here later this week and tell you what they gave me.
I am very thankful I found this site and your help

Thanks rested gal & Linda3032 & everyone

And, if you want the BMW model, you have to Bring More Wampum.

(PS....there's nothing wrong with a Pontiac, either.....I was fond of their Trans Am models.....they'll get ya where you're goin')

Isn't A-Flex the newest Technology?

Post by yosemitelor » Sat May 12, 2007 1:14 pm

Im new here and havent even got my own machine yet, but from what i have gathered the RemStar Auto M series with A-flex not C-flex is the so called 'cadillac'. Please correct me if i am wrong.

Ah ha! You have lung problems and your doctor said that. A good clue that it is probably the bi-level, the Cadillac and not the Pontiac.

Are you also on supplemental 02 w/your CPAP?

You're right, yosemitelor. Respironics started adding "A-Flex" to the M series Auto. For now, you can get the M Auto either way -- with C-Flex or with A-Flex. I haven't tried A-Flex yet, but a couple of people I've heard from recently who have used the Auto with that newer feature (A-Flex) say it's very comfortable.

Snoredog, why so cynical? Are you depressed? If so, get some treatment.

When we get into S/T and ASV machines, I think we move out of the realm of "regular" machines to treat OSA and into machines designed to treat more complicated sleep disordered breathing conditions than what most people are prescribed "CPAP" for -- Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

The ST and SV machines you mentioned, Doug, are good ones, no doubt...IF a person has a condition that requires a timed backup rate or Adaptive Servo Ventilation.

I'd hate to be put unnecessarily behind the wheel of a tractor trailer, even though it was more expensive and complicated, when what I wanted to ride in was a Cadillac.
