to fellow mouth breathers - oracle oral mask
I am 30 years old. I have always been a mouth breather, due to a deviated septum. I had it fixed in high school, but haven't been able to be a nose breather fully. I can at least breathe through my nose now though!
I would prefer to breathe through my mouth and the full face mask is too clausterphobic for me. I freaked out when they had me try it my sleep study.
Have any of you tried the oracle 452 oral cpap mask? I would really like to try this one I think. I can't afford to get a variety of masks as my insurance will be stopped at end of month (although it didn't cover it, the company I use gives me a discount for my insurance).
Last night my nasal mask was driving me nuts. I took it off for a break before I fell asleep. I then slept until 5am. I tried to put mask on because I was very tired and didn't feel good, but I was too awake, so I got up for the day. That is why I want to try the Oracle.

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It's off to sleep I go......
I tried the Oracle briefly on a ResMed S7 test mule in my doctor's office. It sealed amazingly well...better than any FF mask I've ever tried. And no pressure points either. I'm a mouth breather too, courtesy of UVPPP. I may pick up an Oracle if I can get used to having my cheeks bulging like an overfed chipmunk.
Hope this helps! Carl

Hi, I too am a mouth breather and having trouble with the ff masks....I got an oracle and unfortunately I can't use it either! Not only do my cheeks puff out, but at first the air was also coming out of my nose in burps....then I got nose clips and now the air feels like it is pushing my sinuses out through my ears!
I wonder if a lower pressure with an oracle makes sense. Anyhow, I wish you luck.
I think the idea is a good one, it certainly seals well...it's just how the air flows with it.

I think Fisher & Paykel suggest that lower pressure than the usual can be used with the Oracle. Heated humidification is a big must with it.
Air leaking out the nose in sudden snorts was one of two things that kept me from being able to use it. It's definitely a love it or hate it interface. With a few changes that I've not gotten around to doing to it yet (or looking for yet - like really comfortable nose plugs instead of those torturous pieces of silicone they send along with it for plugging the snout), I could get along with the Oracle o.k.

Hi loonlvr,
No, I never tried the Oracle with my auto/c-flex. But I can sure do that tonight. Hate the thought of cramming those silicone F&P excuses for noseplug in...but, hey, what's a conscientious lab rat to do!
I used the Oracle with the 420E and with a Remstar Auto before c-flex was added.
Will let you know how it goes after tonight, loonlvr.

I use the Oracle as a supplement to the F&P Infinity. I had a deviated septum "repaired" about a decade ago and then, couple years later, the septum wall blew out and I now have a perforated septum. Anyhow, tissues in there are soooo sensitive that there are some nights I just can't face the thought of something in my nose; enter the Oracle.
I have the Resmed auto w/ C-Flex and must say I've never had any problem with sinus pressure, leaks through nose or puffy cheeks. Figure the auto/C-Flex are responsible for that.
My only issue with the Oracle is that my jaw is a bit sore come morning. There is a "bit" that protrudes into the mouth just a bit and keeps you from completely biting down with it. With it keeping the jaw in that position, I get sore. Goes away within half hour or so after getting up so far, though.
And, as others say, heated humidifier is a must. Forgot to press that button one night with it and my throat was rather sore by 2 AM and my sinuses felt really dried out. No issue with humidity on, though.

mask gave me the eebie jeebies!
I can't imagine wearing that thing! Has anyone seen "Man in the Iron Mask" with Leonardo DiCaprio? I had panic attacks seeing him with the mask that locked. I can't imagine not being able to take it off. I do have occassional panic attacks wearing my nasal mask, so I am glad I can pull it off quickly if I need to. I have had to do it every couple nights! I can put it back on after a few minutes, (if I don't fall back to sleep)
Thanks for the image Mike! Now I know to make sure I use my humidifier! Mine isn't heated though.
