What were your symptoms of silent GERD?

Since it was silent, umm . . ., well, the short answer is none. I was prone to "heartburn" on occasion, but not all that often, really. Mostly my problems involved awful sleep. I learned through trial and error that eating only lightly in the evening and hours before going to bed was important for me. Now, it seems obvious that there was a connection with apnea, and arrhythmias, but prior to the apnea diagnosis, my sleep doc speculated about the vagal nerve being stimulated by GERD. He prescribed Protonix for me, which was relatively effective, and which I took for about six months. Since then I've been able to control the GERD at least as effectively with diet as I had using Protonix. Like most biological feedback, it just takes attentive listening.
