90% Question--Auto CPAP
Using the software reports, would it be advisable to set the lower pressure of my Auto Cpap to cover 90% of the events? The reports always show the 90% in shaded gray. It would seem a pressure of 6 would cover 90% for me.
Don't confuse the 90% number with apneas. It means that you are spending 90% of the night at or under that pressure.
What are your apap settings? If the high setting is 6 then obviously you probably are spending 90% of the time at that pressure. But if your high setting is 10, and your 90% is at 6, then 6 or 7 would be a good setting for you.
However, if you had the fewest apneas at 5, then 5 might be a good setting for you.
Nothing is black and white, unless it's in black and white. .........

Hi.
I´m new to sleep apnea and CPAP. I wanna switch to APAP. But how do you get to determine your minimum and maximum air preassure? Does you titration show that, or your doctor determines it? Can I spend my first night with an APAP with no min. or max. preassures settings and wait till I see the readings of the machine to stablish that later on? Thanks.
John.

John, an auto can be set at 4 to 20 (wide open). But if you had centrals during your sleep study, then that's not a good idea.
One more time, please fill in your profile. List your equipment. Then we can help you more.

What do your reports show for apneas? And leaks?

So I finally filled in my profile with my equipment.
Why can´t a person with central apneas use an auto PAP machine?
Thanks.

[quote="georgiaboy"]My settings came from cpap.com with a low of 4 and a high of 20. My 90% numbers for the last 3 nights were 5, 5 and 6.. I'm thinking of trying 6 on the low pressure as a starting point.. Not sure yet what to do on the higher number.

Hi georgiaboy.
So you have a Mirage Activa just like mine. Does it happen to you that there is this air leak through these wholes in the mask enven when you are inhaling? I can understand this happens during exhaling ´cause you are throwing away air. I don´t know, but I keep on thinking that this should not happen during inhaling so all the air goes into your nose and so the preassure works. If this is normal please confrim. If not I guess my mask is broken. Does anyone know? Thanks.

Yes, that's normal. On the Activa, this should be a row of holes that swivel around with the hose. It's the vent for your mask so the CO2 you breathe out goes somewhere other than back in your nose. The machine compensates for it automatically and you do not want to cover those up.JohnSerrano wrote:Does it happen to you that there is this air leak through these wholes in the mask enven when you are inhaling?
I'm a programmer Jim, not a doctor!
A person with centrals can use an apap. The problem would be if the pressure was set too high, causing more central events. If you start having centrals at a pressure of 14, you want your top pressure to be less than 14. Have you had a sleep study? If so what info can you give us from it?
