Mirage Quattro full face review

There is a video of the mask at http://www.resmed.com so I won't go into the changes from the Ultra Mirage full face, just my experience with it.

I've been using the Fisher & Paykel 432 full face which is a great mask. The Resmed rep wanted me to try the Quattro so he could get some feedback from a CPAP user. The mask is great. It's very difficult to get it to leak, even when trying. I can fully open my mouth without the top portion of the mask moving. No leak at all on the lower part of the mask, even with my mouth fully open. They use "Activa" technology to keep the mask in place. It's easier to take apart than the UMFF.

It's not quite as comfortable as the 432, but it is comfortable. I've slept the last two nights without waking up once.

I rate it better than the UMFF for comfort and effectiveness. It's not as comfortable as the 432 but it does prevent leaks better on the bottom part of the mask.

How does it compare as far as fitting size to the UMFF? I mean if I use a medium on the UMFF would that be the same on the new mask? thanks

According to the description, it reduces noise by 50%, and it has a new "Streamlined Design". It looks like it could be very interesting if it has a smaller profile than the Ultra Mirage Full Face. Looks like it may *almost* be a FF version of the Activa.

Recently I had a very bad cold and the Hybrid offered zero relief for me (even though I like it otherwise) When I decided to put the UMFF back on, my nasal congestion was far more endurable.

On a related note, it looks like ResMed is going after the Hybrid's share of the market with its new Liberty mask. I wonder if it will be priced competitively, or perhaps even force the makers of the Hybrid to lower their price?

It's been awhile since I've used the UMFF but I don't recall noise being a problem. It isn't a problem with this mask either.

They don't use any shallow sizes with this mask. They say they don't need it because of the design of the cushion. Other than that, yes if you wear a medium now, you will with this mask as well.

The dealer cost for the Liberty will be less than the Hybrid. The Hybrid seems to be in very low demand right now. The rep did show me the new Liberty. The cushion looks much more comfortable than the Hybrid. My guess is there will be much less leak issues with the Liberty due to Resmed's cushion design.

My guess is the Liberty will make the Hybrid nearly obsolete.

That's funny, I just watched the Flash video of that mask at the link below and it doesn't say ANYTHING about "Active technology" that I can see. It says dual-wall spring technology:

That's too damn bad, I asked a very simple question. Now that I've seen your answers, I doubt you ever tried that mask.

I asked a simple question after you compared its characteristics to the UMFF on comfort and other aspects, noise is the next logical question.

Being you are a "DME" guy you should know that, but then your trade may only be limited to peddling crutches not cpap equipment. That would explain why you don't know what technology it uses or nothing about it, typical response read here about DME's.

Where does the bottom of the mask hit your face?

I'm using a CF2 and the bottom rests against my bottom teeth (that sort of dip below your bottom lip / above your chin). This isn't going to work for me long-term because the pressure on my teeth isn't good for my teeth.

I used the UMFF for a couple of months and never had this problem - it hits lower on the chin.

Unfortunately, I could never get the UMFF leaks under control - I have a very narrow bridge and had to squash it against my face to stop eye leaks - each day I had a big red dent in my nose. I have no problem with leaks with the CF2.

Even if you haven't tried the CF2, I would like to know where the bottom of the Quattro hits. And, if I had trouble with UMFF leaks is it still possible the Quattro might work?
